The Government of Afghanistan asked the Ministry of Higher Education to conduct a feasibility study of establishing a University at the province the result of which was positive and the SJA University was established. The University is named after Jamal ad-Din Afghan, political activist and Islamic Ideologist of the 19th Century who belonged to the same district,i.e. The University started with three faculties and modest facilities with no building available, no permanent class rooms for the students, and no library with acres of the land allocated to it occupied by land mafia. But the people of Kunar, whose dream this University was, supported the University administration and the success story begun. Currently, the University has five faculties, namely: Islamic Studies, Education, Agriculture, Computer Science, and Economics with a total of 21 degree programs approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.
