Subdivisions are everything
In this exercise I move step by step through
8ths ā triplets ā 16ths ā 16th triplets ā 32nds
But the most important part is NOT how fast it gets
The real work starts at the end
When I reach 32nds I donāt just touch them and stop ā I stay there as long as I can keep them clean controlled and relaxed
The moment they start to fall apart thatās the limit
And thatās exactly where progress happens
A lot of drummers rush through this kind of exercise just to reach the faster subdivision
But speed without control is useless
If itās not tight itās not ready
What you want to focus on
⢠Even spacing between every note
⢠No tension while increasing speed
⢠Consistent sound no accents by accident
⢠Staying relaxed especially at the top speed
This is one of the simplest but most effective ways to build real control endurance and speed on the drums
And the best part you donāt need anything fancy
Just a pad a metronome and honesty with yourself
Donāt stop when it gets hard ā thatās where it actually starts

My favourite Hip Hop Drum Groove š„
10 drum rudiments in 60 seconds š«š·š„
Practicing rudiments in front of the Eiffel Tower felt like the right place to run through these:
Single Stroke Roll
Double Stroke Roll
Paradiddle
Inverted Doubles
Triple Paradiddle
Ratamacue
Swiss Triplet
Flam
Flam Tap
Triple Stroke Roll
š„ Pro tip:
Practice every rudiment leading with both hands.
Most drummers always start with their dominant hand.
Switching the lead hand helps you develop balanced speed, control and even hands.
Which rudiment is your favorite?
Playing an instrument does something incredible to your brain š§ š„
It improves memory.
It strengthens coordination.
It trains focus.
It reduces stress.
And it literally builds new neural connections.
All while youāre just⦠playing music.
If you want to do something great for your kids, give them an instrument they love. It might change their life.
Most beautiful drum practice spot š«š·š„
While I was in Paris I found this view and thought⦠this might be the perfect place for a quick drum warm-up.
Try this exercise with me:
⢠Single Stroke Roll
⢠Double Stroke Roll
⢠Inverted Double Stroke
⢠Triple Paradiddle
⢠Back to Single Strokes with switching lead hand
Sometimes a different location makes even a simple practice routine more fun.
Save this and try it in your next practice session.
