Our Approach - Extended cut
One that combines academics with sport, outdoor education, healthy habits, and real-world experiences to help students grow in more ways than one.
The focus isn't just on what students achieve while they're at school, but on the kind of people they become along the way. Learning to take responsibility, communicate with respect, work as part of a team, and step outside their comfort zone are all part of the journey.
Because growth doesn't come from one lesson or one experience. It's built through consistency, guidance, challenge, and the everyday moments that shape confidence, discipline, and character over time.
Official Frank Dando Sports Academy
A special school for bright boys that are underachieving. Our school mission statement is: Self Esteem and Academic Achievement Through Sport.
Presentation Day is more than a celebration of achievement.
It is a reflection of the journey each student has taken throughout the year - the challenges faced, the lessons learned, the friendships built, and the growth that often happens quietly behind the scenes.
Today we recognise not only academic success, but the development of character, resilience, discipline, and respect. The qualities that will continue to serve these young men long after they leave the classroom.
To our students, families, staff, and wider community, thank you for being part of another remarkable year.
A special thank you to Archivist Media for producing this short film and capturing the stories, moments, and spirit of our school community so beautifully.
We hope it serves as a lasting reflection of what makes Frank Dando Sports Academy so special.
Every journey has a starting point.
In this conversation, our current Principal Zak reflects on how he first came across Frank Dando and what drew him to become part of the school in its early years.
From first impressions to finding a shared vision, it's a look back at how his journey with the school began.
Life skills aren't something you learn overnight.
It's the little things,
learning how to cook a meal, clean up after yourself, be on time, take responsibility, and make good decisions.
Over time, those habits add up and help prepare students for bigger moments later in life.
From a small group of students to the community it is today.
In this conversation, Zak reflects on the early years of the school. The challenges, the vision, and what it was like building something from the ground up.
Starting with a small number of students and a close-knit staff team, he shares how the school has evolved over the years while staying true to the values it was founded on by Mr Frank Dando.
A look back at the journey that helped shape where it is today.
Respect shows up in the little things.
The silence when someone is speaking.
The handshake after a conversation.
The way students communicate with teachers, peers, and those around them.
These habits aren't built overnight, but they're an important part of developing young men who carry themselves with confidence and respect.
Fun Friday done right.
The students headed to Box Hill Indoor Sports to wrap up the week with some games, competition, and a lot of fun.
A good chance to switch things up, have a laugh with mates, and head into the weekend on a high
Strong relationships make a difference.
When parents, teachers, and students are all connected and working together, growth becomes much more than just academics.
Built on communication, trust, guidance, and shared support along the way.
Different sports, different challenges.
Learning to stay composed under pressure, push through discomfort, and improve through repetition.
That’s where the real development happens.
