βοΈ Snip, Snip, Hooray! Our Fine Motor Adventures π
We have had some very busy little hands in care lately as the children dive into practicing their scissor skills! Mastering scissors takes a lot of coordination, and the children have been absolutely nailing it through two fantastic, hands-on activities.
π Making Our Shopping Lists
First, we practiced our purposeful cutting by looking through shopping catalogs. The children carefully snipped out their favorite items and glued them down to create their very own shopping lists. This was a wonderful way to practice fine motor control while chatting about our favorite foods!
π’ Messy Sensory Fun: Trimming the "Gloop"!
We decided to take our cutting practice outside and level it up with a messy sensory tray.
The Setup: A tray filled with squishy, gooey green spaghetti!
The Mission: Use our scissors to "trim" and chop the spaghetti.
The children absolutely loved the sensory tray. There is nothing quite like combining messy play with skill-building to keep everyone completely engaged.
What we are learning: Activities like these are fantastic for developing fine motor strength, hand-eye coordination, and bilateral integration (using both hands together to achieve a task).
Check out our busy little learners in action below! πΈπ

A snapshot of the start of our week! ππ’
To celebrate World Ocean Day, the children enjoyed exploring an ocean-themed sensory tray filled with sea creatures, surfing Bluey, and lots of opportunities for imaginative play. We also got creative making our very own turtle puppets!
Between the wintery showers, we spent time outdoors exploring a variety of sensory experiences and taking turns sitting in our pretend boats while singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." This was a huge hit with our youngest friends, who loved joining in with the actions and songs.
The fun doesn't stop here! We have a week full of discovery, creativity, and hands-on learning experiences planned, and we can't wait to share them with you. π

Some families may not know that I operate 7 days a week, including evenings. While our weekdays are often filled with planned learning experiences and group activities, weekends and evenings offer a more relaxed pace for the children to explore, play, and unwind.
Here is a little glimpse into our weekend and evening adventures, where children can enjoy flexible play experiences, follow their interests, and feel right at home in our family daycare environment.
