It was wonderful to have not one, but two Old Boys back at BGS yesterday, sharing their expertise and experiences with our students.
Tim Deller (OB 2008), a School Counsellor at Melbourne High School, spoke with the boys about the changes in attitudes towards diversity since his time at Brighton Grammar.
Marcus Morelli (OB 2013), a Principal Artist with the Australian Ballet, returned to campus to film an interview with Connor Giles as part of his VCE Media project, Dance Like A Boy.
Our Old Boys follow many unique and inspiring paths in life, and it is always a pleasure to welcome them back to share their stories with the next generation of Brighton Grammarians.

TONNERS FLY THE FLAG FOR THE BIG V
The Old Brighton Grammarians Football Club was proudly represented by six players in the recent Big V interstate clashes against the Adelaide Football League at Norwood Oval, with all six making a significant impact on representative football's biggest stage.
Harry Hill (OB 2015) captained the Big V men's side for the third consecutive year, once again leading from the front.
Felix Flockart (OB 2019), Finn Campigli (OB 2017) and Campbell Tweedie (OB 2019) all made impressive Big V debuts, with all four finishing inside the top ten on the Premier Data rankings for the match.
A special congratulations to Felix Flockart, who was awarded the Men's Spirit of the Big V Award, recognising the player who best embodied the values, character and team-first attitude of the representative program.
On the women's side, Renee Saulitis and Jasmine Tait helped the Big V continue its outstanding representative record with a dominant victory over Adelaide.
To represent the Big V is one of the highest honours in community football. Congratulations, Tonners! 🔴🔵

KING'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS: JOHN HASLEM OAM (OB 1957)
Congratulations to John Haslem, who has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year’s King's Birthday Honours for service to the community through a remarkable range of roles.
A School Captain in 1957, John’s contribution has spanned public service, politics, law, business, education and community leadership over more than six decades. He served as the Federal Member for Canberra from 1975–1980, before returning to a distinguished legal career and later becoming a respected business leader, community advocate and volunteer.
John has held leadership positions across numerous organisations, including the Association of Former Members of Parliament of Australia, Rotary International, the Salvation Army, and within school communities including Brighton Grammar, where he served as both a Board Chair and President of the Old Brighton Grammarians Society.
Together with his late wife, Caryl, John also played a pioneering role in shaping Canberra’s food and wine culture. Through a series of innovative restaurants and hospitality ventures, the Haslems helped transform the city’s dining scene and earned national and international recognition for their contribution to the industry.
John’s OAM reflects a lifetime of leadership, service and commitment to community. His achievements across so many fields embody the spirit of giving back and making a lasting difference.
Congratulations, John, on this richly deserved honour. 👏💙❤️

KING'S BIRTHDAY HONOURS: ANDREW MULLETT OAM (OB 1968)
Congratulations to Andrew Mullett, who has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year’s King's Birthday Honours.
A School Captain in 1968, Andrew has devoted more than five decades of service to Australian Rules football, particularly through the Old Brighton Grammarians Football Club, where he has been a player, coach, committee member, team manager, archivist, timekeeper, property steward, club historian and long-serving contributor to club life. His contribution to both the club and the Victorian Amateur Football Association has helped shape generations of players and supporters.
Beyond football, Andrew has made an equally remarkable contribution to education. A dedicated public-school teacher since 1977, he spent much of his career at Parkdale Secondary College, where he inspired countless students and wrote and directed school productions for more than 40 years.
This honour recognises a lifetime of service, leadership and community spirit. Andrew’s impact on football, education and the wider community is profound, and we are proud to celebrate this richly deserved recognition.
Congratulations, Andrew, on an outstanding achievement. 👏💙❤️

JUNIOR SCHOOL GENERATIONS
It was a delight to present Generations Pins to these Junior School boys last week. Across their families are uncles, fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers who have attended BGS over the past 110 years.
Through this program, we recognise the special connection these boys have with the history of the School. Their families have each played a role in shaping the Brighton Grammar we know today.

CLASS OF 2006 CELEBRATE 20 YEARS
It was wonderful to welcome back the Class of 2006 on Friday for their 20 Year Reunion.
The night was filled with plenty of laughter, memories and stories as classmates reconnected and reflected on their time at Brighton Grammar. Many also enjoyed the opportunity to tour the School and see just how much has changed over the past two decades.
A special thank you to Jack Davis for helping rally the group together through the class group chat – a terrific effort that ensured such a strong turnout.
One of the great joys of these reunions is hearing about the diverse paths our Old Boys have taken since leaving School, spanning industries including finance, law, construction and paramedicine. We look forward to sharing these stories with the wider BGS community.

Vale Les Heil AM (OB 1951)
The Brighton Grammar community mourns the passing of Les Heil AM, one of Australia’s most respected and influential radio executives, and member of the BGS Hall of Fame.
After leaving BGS in 1950, Les pursued his dream of working in radio, beginning his career at 3SR Shepparton before rising to become the youngest General Manager of a metropolitan radio station in Australia at just 30 years of age. Under his leadership, 3KZ became the first commercial FM radio station in Australia, now known as Gold 104.3.
Across a remarkable career, Les helped shape Australian broadcasting, including the establishment of SEA FM and contributions to radio development throughout the Pacific region and New Zealand. His achievements were recognised with the industry’s highest honours, appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia, and induction into both the Radio Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame and the Brighton Grammar Hall of Fame.
Beyond broadcasting, Les was deeply committed to service, contributing enormously through Rotary, Kiwanis and the Austin Hospital Community Board, helping raise millions of dollars for the Austin Hospital Children’s Wing.
Remembered as compassionate, humble, witty and generous, Les leaves an extraordinary legacy within both the media industry and the wider community.
Our thoughts are with Lyn, his family and all who knew him.
