📸 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝟮 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗽𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁

𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗷𝗶𝗮𝗻

On Wednesday 20th of May our Year 11, 12 and also a few of our year 10 fast track students went on the 2026 VCE Top Designs & Education Forum excursion to the Melbourne Museum.

Students experienced an inspiring education forum as part of the VCE Season of Excellence which included a 1 hour interactive speaker, Jack Murray (Architect). The speaker was dynamic and created to ignite creativity and motive students to help them reach their potential in Visual Communication Design. During the speaker forum, students had the opportunity for Q&A’s, including a discussion and visual examples of the current study design, diamond model, Unit 3 and Unit 4 discussions which provided our VCE students with insight into their SAT folio and further information. The forum allowed students to learn further about the Design Thinking processes of successful designers, divergent and convergent strategies used by designers and how successful designers design with the end user in mind.

All students then had the amazing opportunity to view the Top Designs exhibition inside the Melbourne Museum and this provided our VCE future design students inspiration towards their own Unit 3 and 4 SAT folio, including our Year 11 and fast track students the chance to observe what the design process looks like and what they’ll be designing for next year. Students developed insight into best practice folio presentation from the VCAA by viewing a variety of different folios on the day and how designers work creatively, critically and speculatively to plan, produce, test and evaluate in a project management process.

Students were commended on their behaviour, giving their seat to the elderly on public transport and representing our college values in such a high regard which we should be very proud of.

The day was a fun, inspiring, creative day!

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝐭𝐲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Alkira students have recently completed their SOAR (Students Opportunities at Reflection) reflections, which are now available for students and families to view on Compass.

SOAR provides dedicated time for students to focus on goal setting linked to the Learning Behaviours in our Progress Reports. Through these sessions, students learn to set SMART goals, reflect on their progress, and celebrate their achievements.

This semester's focus has been 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯, helping students develop positive habits that support success in the classroom.

Students created individual goals linked to this learning behaviour, and reflected on their progress throughout the semester.

We encourage families to take the opportunity to discuss these reflections with their child and celebrate the growth they have made towards their goals.

Meet Our College Vice Captain, Jaxson Jolley.

Alkira Secondary College is proud to support College Vice Captain Jaxson Jolley as he takes on the 2026 Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb. The event raises vital funds for organisations supporting mental health, cancer research, and crisis support service.

Jaxson has been serving with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) since 2021 as a junior member before becoming an operational firefighter in 2024. Since then Jaxson has been a proud volunteer at Bunyip CFA supporting his community both on and off the fire-ground.

On September 12 Jaxson will join firefighters from across Australia in climbing 28 floors while wearing 25kg of firefighting gear as part of the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb.
