🧪🔬 SCIENCE WEEK AT LITTLE MINDS IN MOTION 🔬🧪

When people think about preparing children for school, they often think about letters, sounds, numbers, and handwriting.

And while those things are important, learning is so much more than that.

This week, our little learners will been exploring, predicting, questioning, experimenting, and discovering through science activities designed just for them. From watching reactions happen before their eyes to asking “why?” and “what if?”, they’re learning that the world is full of wonder.

Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) aren’t subjects that begin years down the track….they start with curiosity. They start when a child asks a question, makes a prediction, tests an idea, and tries again when something doesn’t work the first time.

At Little Minds in Motion, we love giving children opportunities to explore learning beyond the “usual” ABCs and numbers. Not because we expect them to become scientists, engineers, or inventors tomorrow, but because we want them to develop a love of learning, confidence to ask questions, and the belief that they can figure things out.

Some of the most important learning happens when children are engaged, excited, and curious about the world around them.

And if we can spark that curiosity while they’re young, who knows where it might take them. 💛

As a teacher of 15+ years, I hear this all the time:

💬 “Just let them play. They don’t need school readiness.”

And the truth is... I agree.

Children absolutely need to play.

But school readiness isn’t about worksheets, flashcards, or teaching children to read before Kindergarten.

It’s about helping children feel confident when they walk through the school gate for the first time.

Can they follow a simple instruction?

Can they wait their turn?

Can they recognise their name?

Can they hold a pencil?

Can they ask for help when they need it?

Can they separate from Mum or Dad and know they’ll be okay?

The children haven’t changed.

But classrooms have.

Teachers are managing larger classes, busier curriculums, and less time for individual support than ever before.

School readiness isn’t about getting ahead.

It’s about making sure children are ready to participate, learn, and thrive when they get there.

And that’s a very different thing.

Halfway through Term 2 already 🤍

This little video is just a small snapshot of what our lessons have looked like over the past few weeks - hands-on learning, confidence building, friendships, problem solving and so many little moments of growth along the way.

One thing that’s really important to us at Little Minds in Motion is that we don’t repeat the same program each term. Our sessions are designed as a continuum, meaning we’re always building on children’s skills, extending their thinking and gently preparing them for the next stage of learning.

We still have so much more planned for the second half of the term and can’t wait to keep watching these little minds grow 😊

Term 2 availability update ✨

We’ve had quite a few changes behind the scenes over the past week, and I’m so excited to share our updated timetable with you!

We’ve also added 3 brand new classes to meet demand (which we know has been huge this term 🙈).

A few things to keep in mind:
📚Morning sessions continue to be the most in-demand and are very limited (1 spot left!)
📚Some classes have already filled from our waitlist
📚A small number of spots are still available across the week
🌟 These sessions will highly likely be filled through to the end of the year

If you’ve been thinking about joining us this term, now is the time to jump in before we reach capacity again.

If you’re unsure which class is the best fit for your child, feel free to send me a message – I’m always happy to help guide you 🤍

We had the BEST four days at our Holiday Program last week ✨

Across the week, we had 40 beautiful students join us - and honestly, the energy, creativity, and joy in the room was something special. Watching the kids walk in each day excited, curious, and ready to create is exactly why I love what I do.

This video captures a little glimpse into our Paws & Paint Lab with the incredibly talented artist Kerrie 🎨 The children were completely immersed - creating, exploring, and so proud of what they made. These are the moments that build confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning (even if they just think they’re having fun 😉).

A huge thank you as well to Miss Isabelle, who was there across all four days. She brought so much fun, warmth, and energy to each session, and the kids absolutely loved learning with her 💛

It’s always so much more than just a “holiday activity” - it’s connection, creativity, and giving children the space to try, make, and feel proud of themselves.

We can’t wait to have Kerrie back for future holiday programs… it’s always a favourite 💛

Thank you to all the families who joined us - we loved every minute!

I had the opportunity to share my journey at Tutor’s Day Out as part of the panel… and it really took me back to why I started Little Minds in Motion in the first place 🤍

As a teacher, my own boys went into school already confident with those foundational skills - they could read, write and navigate the basics with ease. And while I was so proud of them, a part of me couldn’t ignore how unfair that felt. Not every child gets that same start… simply because not every family knows what’s needed or where to begin.

That never sat right with me.

Little Minds in Motion was built from that feeling - to share the knowledge, the skills, and the “teacher lens” with families who just want their child to feel confident, capable and ready.

I’ve got you 🤍

School holidays, a couple of big boxes… and somehow we ended up with a penguin 🐧

It’s always a good reminder for me - kids don’t need much.

It looks so simple, but they’re doing so much… problem solving, creating, talking, negotiating, and building resilience when things don’t go to plan.

When we give them space (and something simple), their imagination does the rest - and that’s where the magic (and learning) really happens ✨

And in between all the real-life moments (and yes, screens included 🙃), it’s nice to see just how little they need to stay busy 🤍

This quote really resonates.

Reading difficulties rarely appear out of nowhere in the later years of school. More often, they come from gaps in the early foundations - things like sound awareness, oral language, fine motor strength and early exposure to how print works.

The early years matter so much.

Not because children need to be pushed, but because gentle, intentional support early on can make learning to read feel far less overwhelming later.

When children have time to build these foundational skills in a playful, supportive way, they’re more likely to step into school feeling confident rather than behind.

It’s exactly why early, foundational skills are at the core of our work at Little Minds in Motion.

Prevention is powerful.

And those little moments of learning early on can have a lasting impact. ✨
