🇯🇵 St Stanislaus' College Japan Language and Culture Tour 🇯🇵 Days 5 and 6.
A meaningful moment of the tour took place in Hiroshima, where St Stanislaus' College presented 1,000 paper cranes at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The cranes were crafted over several years in the College’s Japanese classes, and were offered as a gesture of respect and remembrance for Sadako Sasaki and all those affected by the atomic bombing. What a thoughtful gesture ✨
Earlier in the day, students explored the tranquil Shukkeien Garden, taking time to appreciate its beauty and stillness. The day concluded with a hands-on cultural experience as students made their own traditional okonomiyaki pancakes.
The previous day in Kyoto provided a vibrant contrast, filled with cultural discovery. The group visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, walking through its iconic torii gates, before taking in the beauty of the Golden Pavilion. ⛩️ 🏯 At the Samurai and Ninja Museum, students explored Japan’s historical social structures, weapons, and clans through engaging, interactive experiences. 🥷
The evening concluded at Gion Corner, where the group enjoyed a showcase of traditional Japanese performing arts, including a standout comedic performance.
“Overall, the day was filled with laughter, great food, and just enjoying the atmosphere and true beauty of Japan.” – Campbell, Student
