Two days of Division 1 ACC Hockey at Perth Hockey Stadium saw our Newman College Boys and Girls teams take to the field with skill, determination and wonderful teamwork.

Our Boys team faced eventual champions John XXIII College in their Semi Final, while our Girls team contested the Grand Final against Mercedes College, finishing runners-up after a hard-fought match.

Congratulations to all players and coaches on a fantastic campaign. We are so proud of the way you represented Newman College! 🏑

Congratulations to our First XVIII AFL team on an outstanding week of football in the Eagles Cup competition!

The boys secured a hard-fought Preliminary Final victory over La Salle College on Monday before backing it up with another impressive win against St Mark's in the Semi Final on Wednesday.

These victories have earned them a place in the Eagles Cup Grand Final, where they will take on Court College on Wednesday 24 June at 4.00pm at UWA Sports Park.

Let's get behind our boys and show them the strength of the Newman College community. We encourage students, families, staff and alumni to come along, wear your Newman colours and cheer the team on as they compete for the Eagles Cup title.

🐾 Year 1 Red Takes Us on an Animal Adventure! 🐾

Congratulations to our Year 1 Red students on their wonderful assembly presentation! The students confidently shared their learning about animals, exploring their unique features, habitats and ways of moving. They impressed the audience with their knowledge of different animal groups, including mammals, reptiles and birds, demonstrating just how much they have learned.

A special congratulations also to our Kindy to Year 2 Merit Award recipients, who were recognised for their hard work, positive attitude and commitment to learning. We are so proud of all our students and the many ways they contribute to our College community each day.

Chemistry in Action! 🧪

On Monday, our ATAR Chemistry students had the opportunity to see chemistry beyond the classroom during a visit to the ChemCentre.

This government-funded facility provides specialist analytical chemistry and forensic science services across a range of industries, delivering high-quality scientific analysis and advice that supports the Western Australian community.

Students were privileged to meet Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Science and Innovation, as well as Professor Sharath Sriram, Western Australia’s Chief Scientist and a distinguished research leader whose work is helping to develop breakthrough technologies in nanoelectronics, sensors and medical devices.

The visit provided a fascinating insight into the diverse and exciting career pathways available in science, and highlighted the important role chemistry plays in solving real-world challenges. 🔬✨

🚣‍♂️🌿 Nature, creativity and a little bit of teamwork!

Our Year 1 students enjoyed a wonderful day at Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park, taking part in the Nature Boat Building program. Working together, they explored the wetland environment, investigated which natural materials float and sink, and designed their own boats using materials collected from the bush. The highlight? Testing their creations on the water and seeing whose boat could stay afloat the longest!

It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that combined science, creativity and outdoor exploration, while encouraging our students to connect with the natural world around them. 🌱⛵
