Palliative care focusses on improving the quality of the living years, rather than just the medical intervention. It is the selfless people in the palliative care field that give hope to those receiving care, not give up on them.

The PaSCE team exists to ensure that every health professional in the palliative care sector has the resources and skills to ensure the highest level of care for patients, ensuring that their respect, dignity and empowerment is the forefront of all clinical practices.

National Palliative Care Week is here.

This week, Palliative Care Australia is encouraging us to make palliative care easier to understand by challenging myths, asking honest questions, and offering clear, gentle answers.

This year’s theme, “Getting to the heart of it: Big questions. Real Answers” focusses on three powerful ideas:

• Living well, your way: prioritising comfort, quality of life, and staying connected to what matters most

• Conversations change everything: early, honest conversation supports better care and planning

• The heart of care: care that feels personal, safe, and respectful for people and their loved ones

At Pasce WA we’ll be exploring this theme all week. We’ll tackle common myths about palliative care and share practical ways we, as healthcare professionals, can communicate with clarity and empathy.

In palliative care, some of the biggest barriers are misconceptions.

“Isn’t palliative care just for the last days of life?”
“Does it mean we’re giving up?”

As health professionals, how we respond to these questions can shape understanding, reduce fear, and open the door to better care.

Next week for National Palliative Care Week, we’ll be exploring this year’s theme “Getting to the heart of it: Big questions. Real answers”, focussing on practical and compassionate ways to approach these conversations in our everyday work.

Let’s use next week to reflect on how we approach palliative care conversations, and where small changes could strengthen our practice to deliver truly person-centred, compassionate care.

Build a strong foundation in palliative care and the palliative approach. This practical in-person workshop, led by the talented and experienced Natalie Panizza, explores communication, symptom management, grief and bereavement, teamwork, and self-care when supporting people with life-limiting illness.

Foundational content relevant across all health disciplines and suitable for varying levels of knowledge and experience.
