The Curtin Law School, in conjunction with the The Law Society of Western Australia, is sponsoring a screening of Silenced as part of the 2026 Revelation Film Festival. A post event panel with Q&A will be held with defamation expert lawyer, Carmel Galati.
Silenced is a documentary exploring the work of Australian human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson, whose career has focused on violence to women, media freedom, and human rights around the world.

Principal at Carmel Galati Carmel has extensive experience and expertise in defamation and media law. She has represented clients in several high-profile defamation matters in Western Australia, including acting for then Premier Mark McGowan in his defamation proceedings against Clive Palmer, and more recently representing Brittany Higgins in her defamation case involving Senator Linda Reynolds.
Katrina Williams
Katrina is a clinical human rights academic and lawyer at Curtin Law School. She researches and teaches in law reform, anti-discrimination law and the human rights of women, with a special interest in the impact of intersectional discrimination.
Elisha Butt
Elisha is senior lawyer and clinical supervisor at the Curtin Law School John Curtin Law Clinic, with expertise in workplace sexual harassment matters and how non-disclosure agreements can constrain accountability and the voices of survivors.

Curtin Law School students, Sachi Elliot and Riley Forward, were honoured to meet with the Attorney General of Western Australia, the Honourable Dr Tony Buti MLA.
Our students discussed their submission regarding law reform to provide certainty around compensation, for individuals who have been wrongfully convicted. The students drafted their submission as volunteers in the John Curtin Law Clinic, at the invitation of the Jaycees Foundation Ltd.
If you are interested in law reform at the John Curtin Law Clinic, expressions of interest for LLB students to enrol in the Legal Clinic unit in Trimester 3 opens on 3 August 2026.

On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the Curtin Student Law Society proudly participated in the Walk for Justice in support of Law Access Limited.
Curtin Law Schoolare honoured to be recognised as the top university fundraising team, raising $10,343 for this important cause. This also marks the fourth consecutive year Curtin Student Law Society has received this recognition.
This achievement reflects the generosity and dedication of our committee, sponsors, staff, students, alumni, friends, family, and wider community. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared our fundraiser, attended our events, purchased merchandise, or supported the campaign in any way.
Throughout the campaign, the Curtin Student Law Society committee hosted five dedicated fundraising events and contributed a portion of proceeds from Curtin Student Law Society merchandise sales towards our fundraising efforts.

Thank you to everyone who attended Blockchain and the Law in Australia and Abroad, hosted by Curtin Law School.
The event brought together students, academics, legal professionals and industry participants for an insightful in-person discussion on how blockchain technology is shaping legal landscapes in Australia and globally.
The discussion explored the rapid development of blockchain and digital asset regulation, the opportunities and challenges emerging for lawyers and policymakers, and the importance of legal education in preparing students and professionals to engage with digital finance and emerging technologies in practice.
A special thank you to our keynote speakers and expert contributors:
Michael Bacina, Co-founder of NXT Law, for sharing international insights into digital asset regulation and the evolving legal framework for blockchain technology.
Steven Pettigrove, Partner at Piper Alderman, for providing practical perspectives on regulatory developments, compliance and the legal issues emerging in the blockchain and digital assets space.
Professor Robert Cunningham, Dean and Head of School at Curtin Law School and National Law Lead at the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC), for highlighting Curtin’s role in digital finance education, research and industry collaboration.
