On Monday and Tuesday, two excited groups of Year 8 students set off into the heart of Melbourne for an unforgettable Chinese Cultural Experience! Their adventure began with a guided tour of the Museum of Chinese Australian History, where they stepped back in time to explore what life was like for Chinese settlers in the 1800s. A major highlight was coming face-to-face with three magnificent Chinese dragons that have dazzled crowds in city-wide parades for more than a century. Students enjoyed Kung Fu movement and learned self-defence techniques. The interaction between the students and the instructor scaffolded students understanding of the core of Kung Fu, which is not only the movement, but also mindset practice. Of course, no cultural journey is complete without food! Students sampled a delicious range of Chinese dishes, choosing flavours that matched their curiosity and courage.

This experience brought their language learning to life—offering a vibrant, hands-on opportunity to deepen their understanding and ignite their passion for Chinese culture.

Our Year 9 Conflict in the Modern World class headed offsite this week to the Immigration Museum.

Throughout this semester, students have learnt about the Korean War, the Vietnam war, and the Rwandan Genocide. This week’s excursion complemented these studies by examining how conflict and persecution can drive migration and shape the experiences of those who seek a new life in Australia.

Thank you to our students and staff for being such positive ambassadors for our school.
