Study Circle on The Dice Man: Chance, Choice, and Outsourcing of Self

In George Cockcroft’s cult classic The Dice Man, the protagonist finds ultimate freedom by surrendering his free will and moral responsibility to the roll of a six-sided die. In this study circle, we will use this subversive novel as a lens to examine some conflicting aspects of human nature: man's quiet addiction to chance, our desperate need for diversity and exploring full self, and the need for stability.

We were honored to have Engineer Fardin Hasin, Director of BestCade Corp who guided us through the massive potential of agricultural technology and its power to transform Bangladesh's future.

Gen Z Impact Leader Program 2026 আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল As-Sunnah Foundation-এর উদ্যোগে, যেখানে Dhaka University Science Society (DUSS)-কে আমন্ত্রণ জানানো হয়। উক্ত প্রোগ্রামে DUSS-এর পক্ষ থেকে মো. আরিফুর রহমান ও তাহসিন আহমেদ প্রতিনিধি হিসেবে অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

প্রোগ্রামের অংশ হিসেবে As-Sunnah Foundation-এর বিভিন্ন প্রশিক্ষণ কেন্দ্র পরিদর্শন করা হয়, যার মধ্যে ছিল—অটোমোবাইল, এসি ও রেফ্রিজারেটর সার্ভিসিং, লেদার প্রসেসিং, মোবাইল ফোন রিপেয়ারিং এবং মোটরসাইকেল রিপেয়ারিং সেন্টার।

এছাড়াও তাদের শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান এবং নবনির্মিত মসজিদ কমপ্লেক্স পরিদর্শন করা হয়, যা তাদের জ্ঞানচর্চা ও সমাজ উন্নয়নের প্রতি প্রতিশ্রুতিকে তুলে ধরে। পাশাপাশি আরেকটি প্রশিক্ষণ কেন্দ্রে গ্রাফিক ডিজাইন ও ইংরেজি ভাষা দক্ষতা উন্নয়নমূলক কার্যক্রম পর্যবেক্ষণ করা হয়, যা বাস্তবমুখী দক্ষতা উন্নয়নে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে।

পরিদর্শনকালে মতামত ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময়ের সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করা হয় এবং এই মানবকল্যাণমূলক উদ্যোগ থেকে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করা সম্ভব হয়।

সামগ্রিকভাবে, প্রোগ্রামটি একটি সমৃদ্ধ, অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ক এবং শিক্ষণীয় অভিজ্ঞতা হিসেবে প্রতীয়মান হয়েছে যা যুবসমাজকে সঠিক পথপ্রদর্শনের জন্য একটি দিক-নির্দেশনা হিসেবে কাজ করবে।

On behalf of the Dhaka University Science Society (DUSS), we extend our warmest wishes and deepest respect to the incredible women who balance the complexities of life and the wonders of the universe with such grace.

Behind every great discovery is a mind that was nurtured, and behind many of science’s greatest minds was a mother who refused to let curiosity die. Today, we celebrate the women who manage the ultimate dual-research project: advancing human knowledge while nurturing the next generation.

Consider the story of Marie Curie. While the world remembers her for the glowing laboratory and her two Nobel Prizes, Marie was also a mother who applied the same rigor to parenting as she did to physics. After the tragic death of her husband Pierre, she raised her daughters, Irène and Ève, with a unique scientific upbringing. She even organized a teaching cooperative with fellow professors at the Sorbonne to ensure her children received the best possible education.

Marie did not just discover Polonium and Radium; she catalyzed a legacy. Her daughter Irène Joliot-Curie followed in her footsteps to win her own Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935. This remains one of the most powerful proofs that a mother’s influence can change the atomic weight of history itself.

To the mothers in our labs, our classrooms, and our homes, you are the constants in an ever-changing universe and the source of energy that defies the laws of thermodynamics. Whether you are a scientist yourself or the mother supporting a budding researcher here at Dhaka University, your influence is the most profound force of nature we know.

The historic Haymarket Affair became a turning point in the global struggle for fair working conditions, inspiring the demand for dignity, safety, and the 8-hour workday.

International Workers’ Day reminds us that the rights and opportunities enjoyed today were achieved through resilience, sacrifice, and collective action. It is not only a day of remembrance, but also a call to continue striving for equity, respect, and humane workplaces for all.

Dhaka University Science Society observes this May Day with profound respect for workers across every sector and reaffirms its commitment to promoting awareness, social responsibility, and a more inclusive and compassionate future.
