On the auspicious holy month of Saga Dawa, as we also mark the conclusion of the annual K**a Drupchoe, Jangsa Dechen Choeling Monastery inaugurated a butter-lamp shrine hall.
This sacred offering was made through the generous devotion of Mrs. Karma Khandu Bhutia (Thambi) and family, in loving remembrance of Late Lhaden Wongmo Bhutia, as well as her late parents, Late Palden Lama Bhutia and Late Tsering Kipa Bhutia, of Kalimpong.
By the pure merits of this deed, may the light of Dharma flourish, suffering diminish, and may all beings be guided to peace, happiness, and the ultimate path to liberation.

The Lineage and Revival of the K**a Drubchen
K**a refers to the sacred oral transmission that originates from the primordial Buddha Vajradhara (Dorje Chang) and descends to one’s present root guru through an entirely unbroken lineage. The vastness of this transmission is preserved in the Dudjom K**a, a monumental collection compiled into 58 volumes containing 567 sections.
Over time, the practice of the K**a Drubchen was gradually disappearing and was no longer being performed inside Tibet or elsewhere. Recognizing this critical loss, H.H. Kyabje Dudjom Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche took urgent steps to revive and propagate the lineage in exile. He first bestowed the massive K**a empowerment in 1961 at Maduban (presently the Drubdhey Yoedsel Nyinpo Retreat Center) in Kalimpong.
A Historic Milestone at Jangsa Dechen Choling
In 1974, the very first K**a Drubchen was performed at the Jangsa Dechen Choling Monastery (10th Mile, Kalimpong). This historic inauguration was graced by esteemed royal patrons:
• Her Majesty the Gyalyum Azhi Phuntsho Choden
• Her Majesty the Gyalyum Azhi Kelzang Choden Wangchuk
• Rani Chuni Wangmo
Following this, in 1975, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche led and sponsored the Drubchen. Since that pivotal moment in 1975, the K**a Drubchen has become one of the principal annual practices of our monastery, continuing unbroken to this day.
