This is a brilliant read! 💙
*
When we sense that our child is different or when we hear from others that “Your child is not developing at an age appropriate level”, we panic.
We are in a crisis mode. And we can be in this state for many many years, second guessing our intuitions as parents, always searching for something we may be missing out there. We are lost at sea...
Hang on to these keep in minds please:
🌱 Progress does not have an expiration date.
🌱 When someone tells you “That’s not normal”, let it go into one ear and out another!😂 Does that person live with us? Does that person see those sweet moments of you and your child singing songs or cuddling together in bed? Does that person see how hard our child tries to do school work?
🌱 Normal is over rated, throw normal out the window, BUT, work hard to make ‘new normal’. We can do it, think about what we have done this year together at home?? Sure it has not been easy, but think about what we have taught our kids to accomplish this year!!
🌱 Don’t forget that many of the behaviors listed for our neurodivergent child, they are not ‘autistic’ specific behaviors. We lose sight of that because our child is labeled by a professional.
🌱 What is important to nurture are goals our eyes cannot see: confidence, flexibility, thinking process or ability to bounce back.
🌱 You are more than a good Mom, you are an incredible human being, patient, resilient and hopeful!
🌱 It’s a marathon and not a sprint.
🌱 Can’t compare progress with other kids’, you do you, and in the process, you will figure out how to raise an awesome human being.
🌱 There is a key to every door in a house. That’s our family.
Thank you for being here,
I appreciate all of you.

ASD is NOT a choice! Acceptance is OUR choice!
You can’t “turn off” ASD because it’s inherently part of who my autistic loved ones are; it’s part of their minds, bodies, and their sweet souls. It drives all of these every second of every single day.
Autism also drives my life and many of my decisions.
It’s an all encompassing fact of life.
We are rolling with it; managing comorbid conditions, working on life skills and more positive outcomes as part of a journey TOGETHER.
We live and breathe autism every single day that we are together.
*
I cannot imagine them being anything “different,” in any way, shape or form!
The very thought of this is actually very painful and offensive because I am at a place of (almost) total acceptance.
I’m seeing that it is what it is, this is who they are, and who they were meant to be all along.
This is US and our way of living for as long as we can -we have no other choice!
Don’t get me wrong, of course we have intensely stressful and difficult struggles as their needs are many, but this is not the point.
The point is this..
This was MEANT to be OUR journey of change; learning new perspectives, and learning what acceptance and love truly is.
*
This was meant to be my journey in which learning the difference between what FEELS like the end of the world and what actually IS the end of the world actually means.
I promise you, this is NOT the end of the world, it really is not.
Even on the toughest days I can see the light for the trees.
I don’t have a terminally ill child.
I have loved ones who may live, love and thrive differently.
Yes, there is grief, but a permanent wound is healing to become a scar that will remind me that it’s NOT the end of the world.
*
Perhaps this was the lesson I needed to learn to realize I couldn’t control life. Autism is the boss! It’s a force of nature that nobody chose but was instead chosen for us.
ASD is perhaps the change our world needed to teach us how to celebrate the little things, be more compassionate, and to never take any time on this planet for granted.
I refuse to chase and waste. I choose acceptance.💙

Every week we will be bringing little live Instagram chats, in order to show you that you are understood and, that you are never truly alone (even if you feel like you are).
The chats will involve discussion about parenting/special needs parenting, autism advocacy, motherhood, caregiving, relevant autism issues, and also the latest news about their current projects (or upcoming ones).
We will be chatting and sharing posts from highly-reputed ASD advocate moms, ASD professional moms, and other expert moms with relevant experience.
The goals are to offer sound general knowledge, more emotional support, and, to enrich your experience by making you feel connected, seen, helped, and more empowered.
So far, we have chatted with the following guests:
* Allison Jandu - ; Childhood Expert, Toilet Training Coach, Educator, and Author of the popular children’s “how to” book, “How Do You Poo?” *
* Website: https://www.pottytrainingconsultant.com/instagram
* Kate Swenson- :
World-renowned Autism Advocate, Influencer, Blogger, Public Speaker, and Author of the best-selling memoir: “Forever Boy” *
* Website: https://instagram.com/findingcoopersvoice?igshid=NDA1YzNhOGU=
* Michele Portlock - .the.spectrum: Podcaster/Anchor/Interviewer, Behaviourist, Coach,(Families & autistics), Educator, and Autism Advocate.
* Website: https://instagram.com/navigating.the.spectrum?igshid=NDA1YzNhOGU=
*
Come and see who is next!
I promise that the discussions will be fun, uplifting, informative and educational.
Most importantly, this is about a community of caregivers and their charges ultimately coming together to accept and embrace their journeys.
Our intention is to shine a light upon many different, but perhaps fairly similar, autism journeys.
Our ultimate goal is to strive for an accepting world which sees past the difficulties and challenges of autism,
to also see the gifts and endless qualities of each and every autistic person. .

Good evening everyone,
KAM Behavioral Academy is a learning centre fiercely committed and passionate in finding and educating tomorrow’s therapists, ready to embrace neurodiversity and positive change; this goes far beyond behavior management technique!
They understand that the methodology and the therapists are the keys to appreciating and respecting the needs and goals of autistic children, autistic adults, and their entire families.
Their work is centred around the concept of supporting autism families and their loved ones so that both dignity and development go hand-in hand; our loved ones are fully accepted and respected for who they are right now.
*
This is NOT about “turning” an autistic person into a non-autistic person!
This is about human development and more positive outcomes so that any individual develops and learns real life skills and coping strategies.
When they are taught emotional regulation, co-regulation, effective communication techniques etc, a greater sense of independence, improved mental health and self-advocacy skills are more likely to result.
Every human is worthy of a life filled with dignity, joy, peace, purpose and fulfilment.
Every human being deserves to be encouraged, valued, seen, cared for and supported as the people they truly are right now.

Indeed it is!
The older I get, the more I realize that this is a true statement. And, like many of you, I am working on getting some self-care and balance back.
It is such a challenge but if we can try to do both, I believe it will always be ok. 🤗💙🤗

Happy Saturday dear Supermoms, families & friends,
Shout this from the rooftops!
This is a repost shared by me one year ago and it deserves to be shared again.
Seriously though, don’t let others who don’t have a clue about what it takes to care for your own children and meet their daily needs, pass judgment on your own parenting skills.
They just cannot possibly💯% know what it takes to parent your own family unless they live the life in your household 24/7!
Therefore, this comment comes from a place of arrogance (as if they are confident they could do it much better), complete ignorance, and an utter sense of deep down judgment….
With that being said, we shouldn’t let their doubts over parenting become our own and make us question how we are doing! The question SHOULD be,
“Why are we even letting them question our own worth and worthiness or suitablility for this job?”
*
We just don’t have time for any of it!
We don’t deserve any such judgment,
yet somehow this bizarre behaviour of strangers becoming experts in knowing our own children and the parenting we need for them, has become rampant!
Let’s just move on, secure those healthy boundaries, and feel comfortable and confident in ourselves because we know the truth!
Take care and have a good day everyone. 😊💙
