I usually try to practice Ahimsa or non-harming.✌️ When a swarm of Japanese Beetles almost wipes out my grapes, cherries and peaches overnight, I’m gonna pull out some weapons.

The standard treatments for Japanese Beetles also kill bees. 🐝 That’s no bueno. I filled a spray bottle with 4 T. of liquid dish detergent, water and (t.?) peppermint essential oil. I’m super hesitant to recommend the peppermint oil as it can easily burn your skin and eyes. You could try this without the essential oil. If you are going to use the peppermint, wear gloves and glasses and be super mindful of wind direction. If your gloves get some overspray be careful not to touch your face or eyes. 👀 You could also try Neem oil if you have some.

Anyhoo, it worked!!! 🙌 I sprayed pretty heavily 2 mornings in a row. This morning was just a little touch up.

Next up, figuring out how to harvest a few peaches before the squirrels 🐿 eat them all.

Full confession: I’m really struggling with anxiety right now. I know I’m not alone in this during a time when we’re all so raw. 💔

Self-prescribing Green Medicine. 🌳
Nature is the balm for my soul. If that’s true for you get ya some. Recharge. Remember this is a marathon. Figure out what your cycle of run, walk, rehydrate, nourish needs to look like. Take care of yourself in ways you know your being appreciates and then get back to work.

I’m usually a champion sleeper but that hasn’t been the case the past couple of months. My son turned me on to sleep stories in the Calm app. I’ve been listening to one called Blue Gold and I’m pretty sure it was recorded just for me {+ you}. You walk through the lavender fields of Provence, wander into a shed and then...distill lavender essential oil. It’s a great sleep story but I kept pulling myself back to note names and places. 🤪

Some of you know I have a dream of leading a yoga retreat where we also participate in a distillation. 🌱🌹

The past couple of nights I’ve been staying up too late researching retreat locations. 💜 Not good for my sleep patterns but has been a salve for longing to travel.

Italy for Begamot? France for Lavender? India for Cardamom? Egypt for Neroli? Morocco for Cedarwood? Australia for Eucalyptus? Oh the places we’ll go! Sweet dreams. 😴

Monday night yoga at 5:30 is ON, y’all. Weird times. As we adapt to the new normal we’re recognizing how important our interconnection, our daily practices, our conscious cultivation of community really is. 🧘‍♂️😳🌊❤️

I’m trying to recognize the silver lining as getting to practice with some of our OMies that have moved! And maybe some friends from afar. 💕

The deep rest of winter can yield dreams & reveal seeds to be planted. 💫 Post-holidays I’m trying to find the rhythm of the year and put my thoughts into action. You might be feeling overwhelmed balancing the need to slow down and the need to check s**t off your todo list, too?

I thought it could be a sweet win-win to download the Monday Magic Method from our sweet Abbi Miller Holistic . We get our s**t together and keep working toward our highest potential. Abbi and Sam get some Biz Babe cushioning to meet this bundle of light and savor a babymoon. ✨

*If you wanna get even more clarity around an idea I can say her Biz Babes workbooks with Woke & Wired are super duper helpful.*

This practice of utilizing water for optimum health and rejuvenation has been used by many cultures for thousands of years. The cycle of HOT, COLD, RELAX helps promote circulation, tone the Vagus nerve and release endorphins.

🔥 10-15 minutes First use a sauna, steam room, hot shower or bath to raise body temperature and increase blood flow. Improved circulation helps heal injured tissues. This warmth brings a sense of calm.

❄️ 15-60 seconds Cold plunge or shower! Increases metabolic rate and stimulates immune system. “Exhilarating!” per Katherine Hepburn.

✌️10-15 minutes Do nothing! Relax and allow the cardiovascular system to regulate itself.

Repeat if possible.

At home this can be practiced by hot shower finished with cold shower for a minute then meditation. ✨

It was a dream of mine for years to write a book to share what I feel are some of the most foundational practices for a healthy lifestyle. I love to write and teach, and I knew this would give me an outlet to exercise both of these passions. It turns out that when you dream it and believe it, it just might happen.

In April, my book The Ayurvedic Self-Care Handbook: Holistic Healing Rituals for Every Day and Season will be released! It will teach you the basic principles of Ayurveda, why a relationship with nature is important for health, the reasons you may love or be averse routine, simple recipes to incorporate for better health, and so many rituals and routines for each day, night, and season. Though we still have some time before its launch, you can preorder it through the link in my bio. I can't wait to share it with you!
