Representatives from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) TR Zone recently met with TRNC's Minister of Education, His Excellency Nazım Çavuşoğlu, and Cyprus International University (CIU) Rector, Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri. The purpose of this meeting was to address the challenges faced by Nigerian and foreign students studying in TRNC.
This initiative stemmed from the recognition of His Excellency Nazım Çavuşoğlu's role as a significant figure for foreign students in TRNC, particularly Nigerian students who pursue academic endeavors in the region. During the meeting, key points of discussion included academic and welfare concerns, the importance of cultural exchange and integration, the need for improved support services, and the potential for collaborations.

RE: CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE BETWEEN NANS TR ZONE PRESIDENT, COMR. OPEOLUWA SEUN, AND HON. (DR.) ABIKE DABIRI-EREWA, OON, CHAIRMAN/CEO, NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA COMMISSION (NIDCOM)
Today's in-depth dialogue between our President, Comr. Opeoluwa Seun, and the esteemed Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in Abuja delved into various issues, placing a primary emphasis on the experiences and challenges faced by Nigerian students in TRNC.
We were proud to underscore the remarkable achievements of our dedicated students. Their accomplishments shine brightly, a testament to their commitment and the quality of education they receive in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
North Cyprus, despite being presented as an educational hub, was a prominent point of our discussion. This region stands as an educational pillar, enriched by a tranquil environment, eminent universities, and top-notch educational infrastructures. Numerous Nigerian students have been warmly received by the country, enabling them to pursue and excel academically in a supportive and nurturing setting.
However, as with many global destinations, North Cyprus has its unique challenges. Beyond its laudable educational offerings, the concerns range from racial discrimination to certain societal issues, and occasionally, stipulations of regulations that might not fully align with students' interests. Proper awareness and preparedness are vital for our students to navigate these challenges seamlessly.
Additionally, our dialogue touched upon the worrying pattern where some agents misrepresent the offerings of North Cyprus. Even with its valid educational merits, there have been instances where agents have overpromised, painting illusions of grand job opportunities and opulent lifestyles. These deceptive portrayals can set misguided expectations, leading to avoidable disappointments.
Our deepest gratitude is extended to Hon. (Dr.) Abike Dabiri-Erewa for her unwavering dedication and commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, both domestically and abroad.
