Today, 10 June 2026, coinciding with the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, the creator of a unique architectural masterpiece, we pay tribute to his legacy.
One hundred years after his passing, the Sagrada Família marks this historic occasion with a solemn Mass presided over by Pope Leo XIV and the inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ, one of the most significant milestones in the project conceived by Gaudí. With the completion of this tower, the basilica now stands as the tallest church in the world.
My former family business, ESCOFET 1886, supplied for decades all the new cast-stone elements that contributed significantly to the pace and progress of the construction. These photographs were taken during several private visits we had with the Chief Architect of the Sagrada Família, Mr. Jordi Faulí, at the very top of the basilica in 2005 and again in 2016.
These visits remain unforgettable memories of witnessing firsthand the evolution of one of humanity’s greatest architectural achievements.

Celebrate “Rosa d’Abril” with us 🌹
Today we honor the Virgin of Montserrat, La Moreneta, patron saint of Catalonia, a symbol deeply loved by Antoni Gaudí himself. His admiration for Montserrat, especially the iconic Cavall Bernat, even inspired elements of the Sagrada Família, where you can find architectural echoes of the mountain’s unique forms.
Would you like to discover the spiritual and artistic connection between Montserrat and the Sagrada Família?

Feliç Sant Jordi 🌹📖😍🥂
Love, culture, and tradition: The Catalan style.
On Sant Jordi (Sain George roses and books fill the streets, turning every corner into a story worth living.
One of the most magical days to experience Catalonia like a local.
Each April 23, Catalonia transforms into an open-air celebration of culture, romance, and tradition. For those visiting the region, Sant Jordi is not just a festivity—it is one of the most authentic and meaningful experiences you can witness.
Often described as Catalonia’s answer to Valentine’s Day, Sant Jordi replaces conventional gifts with something far more symbolic: books and roses. Traditionally, a man offers a red rose, while a woman gives a book. Today, this exchange has evolved into a shared gesture between partners, friends, families, and even visitors, making everyone part of the celebration.
The origins lie in the legend of Sant Jordi, the knight who defeated a dragon to save a princess. From the dragon’s blood, a rose is said to have bloomed—an enduring symbol of love and bravery. The literary element comes from the coincidence with World Book Day, turning the day into a tribute to both romance and culture.
In recent years, even gastronomy has embraced the tradition. Local bakeries craft the distinctive Pa de Sant Jordi, a visually striking bread inspired by the Catalan flag, made with natural ingredients such as sobrassada, cheese, and walnuts—perfectly reflecting the region’s culinary creativity.
At Barcelona By Road, we believe that true luxury lies in experiencing a destination through its traditions. Sant Jordi is one of those rare moments where culture, storytelling, and everyday life come together effortlessly. Whether strolling through Barcelona’s iconic avenues or discovering the charm of smaller towns, it is a celebration that leaves a lasting impression.
