“I am incredibly proud of every pupil who achieves their driving licence, but even more proud when they leave with the confidence and skills to drive independently for years to come. Olti passed his test in April, and I was truly grateful to receive the following review.”

Gregor was a brilliant driving instructor throughout all my lessons. He was friendly, patient, and explained everything simply and clearly, which instantly helped build my confidence. From the very first lesson, he created a supportive environment and handled my mistakes calmly, ensuring I never lost confidence and always understood how to improve.

Most significantly, he didn’t just teach me how to pass my test, but also how to become a safe, lifelong driver, deal with real-life unexpected situations, and what to look for when buying a car, as well as how to maintain it.

With well-structured lessons and great support throughout, I would confidently recommend Gregor to anyone learning to drive.

🚗 First Time Pass – And on a Sunday! 👏

Massive congratulations to Olti Zeka on passing his driving test first time — and on a very rare Sunday test too!

A fantastic achievement, and thoroughly deserved. Olti approached his driving with real maturity, focus, and commitment from the very beginning — exactly what it takes to become not just a driver, but a safe and confident one for life.

I’m incredibly proud of the standard he reached 👊

As I was on my way home from holiday, a huge thank you goes to my good friend Laurence for stepping in and accompanying Olti on the day — greatly appreciated and a big part of the team effort 🙌

Enjoy your freedom on the roads, Olti — you’ve earned it 🚗💨

🚗 Top 5 Motorway Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

Motorways are statistically some of the safest roads in the UK — but only when used correctly.

Here are 5 of the most common mistakes I see every day 👇

1️⃣ Middle Lane Hogging

Not returning to the left lane after overtaking.

👉 Always move back to the left when it’s safe
👉 Keeps traffic flowing and reduces frustration

2️⃣ Poor Lane Discipline

Sitting in the wrong lane or switching lanes without proper planning.

👉 Plan ahead
👉 Use mirrors and signals properly
👉 Don’t drift between lanes

3️⃣ Tailgating

Driving too close to the vehicle in front.

👉 Keep a safe following distance (at least a 2-second gap in dry conditions)
👉 More space = more time to react

4️⃣ Incorrect Use of Slip Roads

Joining too slowly or hesitating when merging.

👉 Build speed on the slip road
👉 Match the flow of traffic before merging

5️⃣ Lack of Awareness

Not checking mirrors, blind spots, or reading the road ahead.

👉 Stay alert
👉 Anticipate what others are doing
👉 Good observation = safer driving

💡 Final Thought:

Motorway driving isn’t difficult — but it does require discipline, awareness, and respect for other road users.

Small improvements make a big difference.

🚗 Middle Lane Hogging – More Than Just Frustrating

If you’ve driven on a UK motorway, you’ve likely seen it…

A driver sitting in the middle or outside lane while the left lane is completely clear.

This isn’t just frustrating — it’s actually considered careless driving.

Under UK law:
➡️ Drivers must keep to the left lane unless overtaking
➡️ Remaining in the middle lane unnecessarily can result in a
💷 £100 fine and 3 penalty points
➡️ Covered under Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988

The Highway Code Rule 264 is clear:
👉 Stay in the left lane unless overtaking, then return when it’s safe to do so

⚠️ Why it matters:

Middle-lane driving can:

* Disrupt the natural flow of traffic
* Lead to tailgating and frustration
* Encourage unsafe manoeuvres such as undertaking
* Increase the risk of collisions

💡 The reality:

This often comes down to habit, uncertainty, or misunderstanding — but as drivers, we all share responsibility for keeping our roads safe and efficient.

Good motorway driving isn’t just about speed — it’s about lane discipline, awareness, and consideration.

✅ Simple rule to remember:

If you’re not overtaking — move back to the left.

🚗 FIRST TIME PASS SUCCESS 🚗

A massive congratulations to Fin Lawrence on passing his driving test first time today with an excellent drive — picking up just 1 driver fault 👏

Fin joined me as a complete beginner, with no previous driving experience, and in just a few months has developed into a confident, capable and safe driver.

This result is a credit to the hard work, focus and commitment he’s shown throughout his training.

Another fantastic achievement… and proud to be maintaining a 100% first-time pass rate since relaunching Matz Driver Training last September 💪

Enjoy the freedom of the road, Fin — it’s been a pleasure to be part of your journey 🚘

🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
January 2026 marks a very special milestone for me — 25 years in driver training.

Back in January 2001, I began what I thought would simply be a job. What it became was a lifelong passion — a career built on trust, patience, and responsibility, and one that has allowed me to meet thousands of incredible people along the way.

I officially qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in January 2001, but the journey started long before that badge. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching learner drivers, advanced drivers, and aspiring instructors — helping people not just pass a test, but develop real confidence and proper driving skills for life.

Up until 2013, I owned and ran one of the largest independent driving schools in Scotland, training both pupils and instructors. It was demanding, rewarding, and something I remain immensely proud of. These days, things look very different — and very intentionally so.

Now, through Matz Driver Training, I teach because I genuinely love it. I no longer chase volume or numbers. I mainly teach at weekends, work with pupils who truly want to learn, and focus on quality, safety, and enjoyment behind the wheel — especially in a manual car, where proper driving skills really shine.

This post isn’t about promotion.
It’s about gratitude.

Thank you to every learner who trusted me with their first steps on the road.
Thank you to every instructor trainee who chose to learn from me.
Thank you to those who supported me, recommended me, challenged me, and stayed in touch over the years.

Driver training is about far more than passing a test. It’s about responsibility, awareness, confidence, and respect — values I’ve carried with me for 25 years and will continue to uphold for as long as I teach.

Here’s to the journey so far — and to everyone who’s been part of it. 🚗✨

🎄 CHRISTMAS IS COMING… LET’S DRIVE WITH GOODWILL 🎄

As we head into the festive season, our roads naturally get a little busier. Christmas shopping, visiting family, winter get-togethers — it all means more cars, more pedestrians… and a little more stress for everyone.

So here’s a gentle reminder from Matz Driver Training:

🚗 Be patient. Queues will form, traffic will slow down, and that’s perfectly normal this time of year.
🧭 Expect unfamiliar drivers. Many people travel to different towns for Christmas shopping and may not know the road layout. They might hesitate, slow suddenly, or make the odd mistake.
🛡️ Defensive driving is key. A good, safe driver always anticipates what others might do — especially at this time of year.
🚶‍♀️ Look out for pedestrians. Shoppers carrying bags, kids excited for Christmas, people stepping out from between cars — expect more movement around busy streets and car parks.

And above all…
✨ It’s the season of goodwill.
Even if someone gets it wrong, let’s be the drivers who stay calm, patient and kind. In fact, let’s make that spirit last all year round.

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy the countdown to Christmas 🎄
