Challenging behaviour often occurs as the result of a child having difficulty with attention and listening or through their difficulty to communicate in a way that is understood by the adults around them.
For tips on how to encourage attention and listening go to the Help Kids Talk website and see our bitesize series on this along with a top tips sheet and checklist which include ideas and strategies to help.
There is also a top tips sheet on the best ways to support children who have unclear speech and a full bitesize series on support for children who stammer.

We were delighted to present flowers and a gift to Mrs Cathy Milne, Principal of St Aloysius School in Lisburn in recognition of her outstanding support for Help Kids Talk over the past 11 years.
A passionate advocate for early intervention, she has always embraced opportunities to support the children and families in her school community, and has been an enthusiastic and valued member of the Help Kids Talk steering group.
We thank her for her dedication, commitment and friendship, and wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.

Attuned relationships are great for babies’ brains and their overall development. These relationships help them develop social and emotional skills and to shape how they see people and the world around them.
Attunement helps babies feel safe, build trust and gain confidence to explore.

Emotional attunement involves noticing, understanding and responding to another person’s emotional state in a sensitive and appropriate way.
When adults are emotionally attuned to babies and young children they notice cues, validate children’s emotions and appropriately respond to them.

Attuned relationships help babies to feel safe and loved, and help them learn to regulate their emotions, supporting good infant mental health.
Everyone can benefit from learning more about attunement and there are lots of resources and tools available to help.
