Here's a Liverpool band spotlight to celebrate the success coming out of our wonderful city ✨
The Mysterines are a British alt-rock band from Liverpool and the Wirral featuring the talents of Lia Metcalfe, George Favager, Callum Thompson and Paul Crilly.
Taking inspiration from the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Garbage, the Scouse love of a melody is evident in their music, balanced with a darker grunge sound.
Having supported Arctic Monkeys on their stadium tour of 2023, the band's new album - 'Afraid of Tomorrow' - is expected to make them one of the biggest guitar bands of 2024.
If you want to set yourself up to be the next big success from the northern UK music scene, head to https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0bjgj-0 to check out our courses — we might just be able to help! 👀

Highlight on local Liverpool venue 👉 Cavern Club Liverpool
Not just the most famous music venue in Liverpool but possibly in the world, the Cavern has long been associated with the Beatles, a small basement venue where the talents of John, Paul, George and Ringo first shone.
The Cavern Club initially opened in the fifties as a jazz venue before becoming known for its association with Merseybeat the following decade.
The Beatles first performed there in February 1961 following a stint in Hamburg in Germany. The original club was closed during the seventies but then reopened in 1984 on a slightly different site.
Fast forward to today and the Cavern is still very much a living, breathing venue with live music kicking off every day from 11.15am 🙌

We recently interviewed BA Creative Music Production alum Georgia Winter! Commenting on their time at ICMP, they said:
"My time at ICMP gave me the facilities and network to explore working in an industry mimicked setting. Working on writing to briefs, artist projects, music videos and live projects helped me to cultivate my creativity whilst understanding how to manage harder aspects such as creative burnout in a fast-paced and irregular industry."
Georgia currently works in the music industry as a producer, an independent pop artist and as a live drummer for artists including Hannah Grae and Suki Waterhouse 💪
"The best advice I've had about the music industry is learn the rules so you can break them. As with any creative process, in order to allow yourself to translate the art you want you need to have the tools and knowledge of how to achieve what you want. Essentially learning how to experiment! Limits and parameters breed creativity."
Part of the work Georgia does as a producer involves production work for the likes of Universal Music Group 🎹
"My production work with Universal came about after applying for Universal Production Music's 100% HER Mentorship scheme in 2022. I was lucky enough to be selected to be under mentorship writing to active briefs for TV, advertising and sync, and have continued producing tracks to sync briefs since finishing
the mentorship."

This month, the shines on Peachy! Run by ICMP's Jaz Beeson (BA Songwriting alum) and Macie Nyah (BA Creative Musicianship alum), Peachy is a company aiming to support women, gender expansive artists and the q***r community.
We caught up with Jaz to learn more about the company and what the future holds!
———
• What led to you and Macie launching Peachy? •
"Macie and I are artists ourselves and wanted to see some change in the live music landscape.
We've experienced and seen lots of experiences that we felt could be more artist-centric, as well as more kind and respectful. After some conversations about how we would like to be the change we wanted to see, we launched Peachy; a company that centres around wholesome live shows and supporting artists.
We've hosted a series of live shows this year and last; particularly wanting to support women, gender-expansive people, and the q***r community. These are typically members of our community who have missed out on some opportunities or have been treated poorly, and we're here to change that."
———
• What have been some of the events you've worked on and promoted? •
"We most recently led a bustling night at The Victoria, hosting Sophie Griffiths, Daisy Veacock and Marianne Leigh - three artists that are making waves in the London scene (Daisy is about to play Glastonbury, Marianne's just come off tour, and Sophie has had some incredible sync placements in the last year). We're huge fans of the artists we put on and were dancing and singing along during their performances in May!"
———
• What is next for Peachy? •
"Peachy is planning a big, exciting show for autumn and will be extending the invite to all new and continuing ICMP students to be a part of the community as we continue to build.
We do have applications open for new artists if anyone wants to join Team Peachy - you can sign up via our socials!"

Congratulations to Songwriting alum Lucia Mulchansingh on her recent success working at Absolute Label Services 🎉
Earlier this year, Lucia told us more about her job, how to get ahead in the industry and how studying with ICMP helped launch her career.
Commenting on the latter, she said:
"I don't think you get that anywhere else, speaking to people in the industry and learning from their firsthand experience — it's just really valuable. ICMP were good at offering these in-person conversations with experts and allowing you to access their knowledge."
Lucia works as Streaming & Digital Service Provider Relations Lead at Absolute Label Services, and commented on what she’s got lined up this year:
"We're working with Feeder on their new music, Kaiser Chiefs is a big one for me as they’re doing an album soon, Shaznay Lewis from All Saints alongside some more emerging artists. I'm expecting more meetings, more gigs and hopefully some award shows this year too!"
She was also featured in Music Week in their Rising Star column in February 🙌
