“Every year in the Serengeti-Mara savannah, a great spectacle occurs. Almost 2 million wild animals including the wildebeest, gazelles, zebra, and topi embark on a magnificent journey known as the Great Migration. This is the world’s largest land migration of animals, and an amazing experience to witness!
The migratory corridors through which the wildebeest and other animals travel crosses country borders and connects core habitats. These corridors are critical for the survival of these species and the long-term viability of their surrounding ecosystems. But in recent years, human encroachment and land-use changes have had a significant impact on the ability of animals to migrate. A key challenge for Kenya’s wildlife populations today is a lack of space. While there are national Parks, 70% of wildlife reside on unprotected community land.
This is where conservancies like Nashulai can come in. The Maasai have lived for centuries cohabiting in a harmonious relationship with the wildlife of the savannah. At Nashulai, we have demonstrated how indigenous people can combine this traditional wisdom with 21st century science and proactively contribute to solutions. Nashulai is a vital migratory corridor link for animals between the Maasai Mara National Reserve and other community conservancies. So we worked to remove 25 kilometers of fencing, began river and land restoration initiatives, and adopted sustainable rotational grazing practices.
As a result, migrating animals have cast their votes with their feet – they have returned to their ancient migratory routes across our Nashulai borders! During our first Great Migration as a community conservancy, over 10,000 wildebeests and zebras passed through our lands. Our Elders couldn’t recall seeing such numbers of wildlife in decades!”

"This is me at the forgotten Meroe pyramids in Sudan, visiting with my friends. In a desert, in Eastern Sudan, along the banks of the Nile river, just 250km from Khartoum (the capital) lies a collection of nearly 200 ancient pyramids. Many of them are tombs of the kings and queens of the Merotic Kingdom which ruled the area for more than 900 years!"

“Quseir Amra.
For me Simplicity is the heart of everything. If i look to the desert, apparently the desert is very simple but it's full of life, it's full of hidden places.
Quseir Amra or Qusayr Amra was built in the early 8th century. This exceptionally well-preserved desert castle was both a fortress with a garrison and a residence of the Umayyad caliphs. The most outstanding features of this small pleasure palace are the reception hall and the hammam (a bath complex with changing room, warm and hot rooms); both richly decorated with figurative murals that reflect the art of the time. Qusayr Amra is just over one hour away from Amman and Madaba by car.

“This is my daughter’s favourite flower. It’s one of the orchids that are endemic to Cusco and can be found in these regions including the Inca Trail from June to August. Its scientific name is Altenstenia Fimbriata. In my personal opinion, it is one of the coolest flowers. I know it is not as noticeable as other colorful orchids from the Inca trail. It is shaped like and looks like an insect – especially a bee. And it produces a perfume that attracts only bees. I love the expression of my tourists when I explain its features. How nature can be so smart! A flower pretending to look like an insect just to spread out its seeds, its’ incredible.”

"The Roman Theatre is one of the most famous monuments in Amman, Jordan. Jordanian families prefer to visit the amphitheater at the end of each week to enjoy climbing the stairs or sitting among the tall columns. Every time I visit the Roman amphitheater, I get goosebumps because of the grandeur of the place and its large size, and I always wonder how it was built."

“We have fruit shops at the edges of fields!
In Jaffna, it’s mango and cucumber season now. The fruit seller has plucked these fresh from his garden and set up shop by the road. Shopping in town markets is difficult and risky now with the Covid situation. It’s really helpful to have these roadside stalls nearer to our homes and villages.”
