Jackfruit - the largest tree fruit which is native to South Asia. Jackfruit is incredibly versatile with it being more ‘fruit-like’ when ripe and more savoury when raw. Pictured above is not just any pile of jackfruit, but one found by a very dedicated Archchi who did not want to disappoint their cute, little cherub grandchild.

A common sight whilst driving along the busy, windy roads of Sri Lanka - these beautiful banana stalls usually have dozens and dozens of varieties of bananas. A personal favourite being ‘seenie Kesel’ (sugar banana), which goes perfectly with some kiribath (milk rice).

The pinwheel jasmine flower - an evergreen shrub found widely across Sri Lanka and a core memory. Growing up, our Archchi (grandmother)would go out into the garden at the same time every day to pluck a bag or two in preparation for a pooja. She’d often recruit us to help and we’d see who could pick the most flowers. The reward being bragging rights and sticky fingers!
