It is great to read the impressions of Lin from Epicure (Singapore) following our vertical tasting of three vintages of Royal Somló at Taberna on Monday. Thank you for everyone who came and savoured Juhfark with us.

Juhfark (pronounced ewe-fark), an indigenous Hungarian white grape whose name may not sit comfortably among English speakers, is a citrusy, acidic wine with a hint of vanilla. We got to try a few vintages of this varietal from Hungarian winery, Royal Somló, at Taberna wine bar, and we were very taken with the 2007's zesty edge and accents of honey and nougat. A perfect quaff to end our Monday night. Have you tried any Hungarian wines before?

Royal Somló Vineyards Royal Somló J wine has been hand crafted for your enjoyment. We grow our vines on Apátsági dűlő, a southern slope of the Somló hill. J stands for Juhfark, an ancient Hungarian white grape variety.

When mountain does not go to Mohamed....soon on the way to B'ham Int to collect three fine bottles if Royal Somló J 2011, the youngest jewel in the crown. It is especially flown in to the UK so that it can be savoured in Singapore on Monday along our 2009 and 2007 vintages. The latter is now a domain library reserve for special occasions only.
