But he is dyslexic, he has a language impairment, ADHD. And every single day, there are pages and pages of symbols put in front of him that he doesn’t understand. It’s easier for many students to “act out” than to let others see how much they are struggling or even to admit it to themselves. And if they don’t have the skills to meet an expectation and/or the right environment to support them to grow then they not only won’t, but they CAN’T. It is our job to help figure out where they are so that they can work hard. Because they want to.
