How proud we are of our students and apprentices as we celebrate their work this evening at our End of Year Show!
So great to see the skills they are learning - many had never even picked up a chisel before starting the course. More pics to follow.... but for now can you guess what this might be the start of?!

Egg and dart molding with relief carved peacock design for the corner return, by Stonemasonry Diploma student Sam. Having not carved egg and dart (or peacocks!) before, Sam drew and modelled this corner feature in clay before carving it in the stone. 👏

Last week we took our 2nd year apprentices and diploma students on an amazing behind the scenes tour to Canterbury Cathedral. Thanks to the stonemasonry team for some amazing insights into caring for this beautiful and historic building. We learnt so much!

Great to be using our "ruinette" - a gothic arch built by former students - for our heritage stonemasonry apprenticeship training. We love investigating all the ways to work with older buildings, from replacement to repair, to consolidation of stone structures. Visit The Building Crafts College to find out more!
