Our librarian Mrs Boddy is enjoying reading Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth from Andersen Press, a whip-smart, laugh-out-loud q***r rom-com featuring the feisty but flawed Aideen who is great at solving the problems of others but not so great at fixing her own. For fans of TV series' The Derry Girls. Next up: what book will Berkhamsted School St Hildas CE High School and The Henry Box School tomorrow?

To celebrate the end of the KS3 exams, our Year 9 pupils took part in a fantastic creative fashion challenge! ✨

They were challenged to design and create a full outfit, think about hair and styling, sketch their ideas, and then bring their creations to life using only toilet paper! 👗🧻

It was great to see the pupils getting creative and working together to complete their creations, well done all!

A buzzing success at the inaugural St James Spelling Bee!🐝

Our Year 7 and 8 best spellers went head-to-head, grappling with challenging words that always seem to catch people out, like 'Mediterranean' and 'linguist'. Isabelle in Year 8 was the last person standing and was a very worthy winner! 🥇

A huge well done to all who took part, and thank you to the English Department for organising the event. ⭐

Last week, we attended the Independent Schools Show in London, where we had the pleasure of meeting so many prospective families and sharing what makes a St James education so unique. It was wonderful to see such great interest and engagement throughout the day.

Our Head of St James Senior School, Ashford, Surrey, Mr Rick Clarke, also took part in an insightful panel discussion, ‘Getting into London’s Top Schools’, sharing valuable advice on the admissions journey, how to choose the right school for your child, and how best to support them throughout the process.

To celebrate May12, a global initiative celebrating women in mathematics, we were delighted to welcome Dr Brigitte Stenhouse to deliver a Minerva Society Talk on the life and work of Mary Somerville. ✨

From studying mathematics independently in early 19th-century Edinburgh to becoming one of the most influential scientists of her day, Somerville’s story is a powerful reminder of where curiosity and determination can lead. The talk also recognised the legacy of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to receive the Fields Medal, whose birthday inspired the May12 initiative.
