When you think about your business, remember, you don't necessarily have to re-invent the wheel every day to beat the competition - you just need to find a more efficient way of making the wheel turn...

Who are you hanging around with? The people who are succeeding? The people who you can learn from? The people who will show you the path to success? Or are you seeing too much of those negative types? Or those that drain you? Those that, let's face it, are going nowhere?
You become who you mix with. Think about who you are mixing with. Serving you? Or sabotaging you?

Check out your marketing materials, brochure, website etc. Is it about YOU - or is it about what you can do for THEM? Give information about how they will benefit profit, succeed, produce from connecting with you. Do not talk about 'who we are' and 'what we do' – this sort of speak could hurt not help!

How cluttered is your website?
Too much clutter, too much happening, and you’ll confuse whoever has clicked though.
Is it clear where you want everyone to look? Is it clear what you want them to do next?
Focus their attention and strip out the other distractions

Really get to know your customers. It's been said you don't really know a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes. So take time to reflect on what they are thinking. Think about the possible ways they might interpret your actions or communication...incorrectly! What possible alternative assumptions could they make? It's not always as clear or simple as you think.

If you're going to see a new prospect, how well prepared are you? For example have you checked out?...
1) Their website for useful information?
2) Viewed their brochure? If they have one
3) Their other suppliers?
4) Their competition?
5) Their customers?
6) People in your network who might know them?
7) Their employees?
8) Their sales department (mystery shop)
We’re not saying do all of these every time - just bear in mind that preparation is key to you knowing your stuff in any meetings with potential customers.

Don't just sell something then run a mile in the opposite direction. Continue the relationship well after the initial sale. Send them useful information, an occasional email or call. Add value. It will of course very much depend on your specific selling context but the general aim should be to build an ongoing relationship with your customers. Who could you contact today?

Brian Tracy- ‘Close that Sale.’- “People will remember a story about a product or service for years, but they will forget all the technical details in ten minutes.” When promoting a product and working on closing your sale it’s important to remember the memorability and the quality of a story/ an example of the product. It pulls people in and engages them in your words and the ending of the event, which places the outcome in your hands as you stimulate the prospect to buy.
