Important dispatch co-authored by our PhD candidate and MA alumna, Esther Ojulari, on the violence against protesters in Colombia:
Racism, Exclusion and State Violence: The Brutal Repression of Peaceful Protest in Colombia - Toward Freedom
Rather than heeding the demands of the citizens against the tax reform and social injustice, Colombia has responded with militarization, turning peaceful demonstrations into scenes of war. Helicopters circle above protest points and communities, while tanks thunder through narrow city streets.

Dear alumni,
I have an update on the closure of the ICwS. Thanks to your lobbying, a new, high-level committee has been appointed to review the future of the Institute and Commonwealth studies at the University of London. They will report their recommendations by the end of June 2021. We remain hopeful that a sustainable plan for the ICwS can be found. More info on the committee, its mandate and how you can contribute are here:

The MA in Understanding and Securing Human Rights is proposed to move to the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, along with the faculty, refugee studies programmes and distance-learning MA in Human Rights. The ICwS played a vital role in nurturing all of these teaching and research initiatives.
