Limpiabotas is a person who cleans and polishes the shoes of potential customers

Here in Nicaragua this job still exists and it is an immense pleasure to see the satisfaction in the customer’s eye.

The beauty of this job lies in the fact that makes shoes more durable and silently sweeps away modern consumerism.

It reminds me of an Italian movie from the great Vittorio De Sica called Sciuscia (Shoe Shine)

Released on 27th April 1946 this movie tells the story of the orphan Pasquale (Franco Interlenghi) and his best friend, Giuseppe (Rinaldo Smordoni). They squirrel away the money they earn shining shoes in Rome, their dream of buying a horse seems out of reach until Giuseppe's older brother ropes them into a scheme to con money from a local fortune teller. The boys are able to purchase the horse, but end up in a juvenile detention center where they are slowly driven apart by police determined to make one of them talk.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary is a significantly important and historic landmark in Nicaragua. The Cathedral was awarded World Heritage Site status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

The temple was built between 1747 and 1814, by more than 11,000 indigenous. The giant statues holding the facade of the cathedral were added few years ago to commemorate the indigenous people.

The architectural design was developed in 1762 by the Guatemalan architect Diego José de Porres Esquivel. It blends the Baroque and Neoclassicism styles with some influences from Gothic, Renaissance and Mudéjar styles.



Among the numerous churches of the León, la Recoleccion is considered as the most beautiful one. Built in 1786, la Recolleccion Church is characterized by a Mexican-style baroque confection and by an impressive dark yellow facade.

The church was subject to an expensive restoration courtesy of the Spanish and Italian governments. Last but not least, the baroque construction has a well-preserved and imposing bell tower.
