And now…. Breathe! Last teaching session of the year done to registrars at St Vincent’s hospital Melbourne… a real full circle moment as the teaching dream started here 8 years ago…can’t wait for 2026!

STARING INTO THE ABYSS…It was humbling but also empowering to speak to trainees about my journey with life threatening necrotising pancreatitis… I always say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and the best mental therapy you can get for someone in their late 30s/ early 40s is a life threatening illness that doesn’t kill you… for me it taught me prioritisation, perspective and most importantly to be fearless… stand over the edge if a cliff, laugh in the face of fear and p**s into the wind!

Sending massive congratulations to my student and friend Mark Jordan-Sykes on the phenomenal achievement of winning the gold medal for FRCS trauma and orthopaedics for the UK and Ireland for 2025… with the top score across all three exam diets for the entire year… so well deserved and so proud of Mark… can’t wait to watch you fly and have an amazing career… well done MJS! 🙌👏
