National Archive Day 2026
After the devastating damage to our school from Bomb 33 in 1944 during the Second World War, the reopening ceremony was a great moment in the history of Streatham & Clapham High School. We are privileged to have these archival photos of the ceremony in 1952, when the Duchess of Gloucester visited Wavertree Road for our school's official reopening.

We were delighted to welcome alumnae from the Classes of 1956 to 1978 back to Streatham & Clapham Prep School on Saturday for tea and a guided tour. The morning prompted many fond memories, from visits to the former Prefects’ Room to reflections on the assembly hall’s post-war history and the wood panelling of the old Sixth Form lounge, now awaiting its next chapter as a sensory room for our Prep girls.
We were also pleased to be joined by members of the GDST Minerva Circle, whose legacy gifts continue to make a meaningful impact across our schools. Their generosity and commitment were warmly celebrated.
Thank you to our wonderful alumnae for reconnecting with the school and for sharing such a special morning with us.

From editing The Common Room as a Sixth Form student, Elsa Wickes, Class of 2016, has built a career in editorial content and communications across international organisations and creative media. She has worked with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the Global Center on Adaptation, and cultural publications such as Beauty Papers and Wholetalk. Her work ranges from shaping global climate communications to contributing editorial features on art and culture. Currently based in the Netherlands, Elsa continues to combine creativity with strategy in her freelance and institutional work.
This year Elsa supported two of our Sixth Form students to serve as co-editors-in-chief, and relaunch our Sixth Form publication, The Common Room. Elsa credits SCHS with sparking her love of writing and editing, and is delighted to see The Common Room revived for a new generation.

Mrs McDonach, Head of Year 9 and SCHS Alumna, is leaving for her maternity leave!
It was a sweet moment when Year 9 was called to an assembly on Tuesday morning, where Ms Furborough advised the girls that there was something very serious to discuss. What was it? Mrs McDonach's maternity leave!
Year 9 students made gorgeous cards, gave eloquent speeches of appreciation and let Mrs McDonach know just how lucky her baby will be to have her as their mum. They also shared how much they will miss her during her maternity leave.
So wonderful to see our SCHS Alumna's surprise! Well done Year 9 and Ms Furborough for successfully keeping it all under wraps!

Last month Streatham & Clapham High School commemorated a brilliant 2024-25 year of sport.
Featuring former England football player, Fern Whelan, as our keynote speaker, the SCHS Sports Awards Ceremony was a wonderful occasion to celebrate our school values and achievements. From being named one of the top 100 schools for sport by , and winning the National Championships for U16 Gymnastics, to having students representing England and Scotland in sports ranging from Touch Rugby to Cricket, and our inaugural participation at the British Rowing National Championships, it was a phenomenal year for SCHS sports!
Alumnae, do you recognise yourselves or friends in these archival images? From the assembly hall in what is now our Prep, to post-war exercise on Wavertree Road, and to pre-all-weather pitch running in 2002, we would love to hear from alumnae in the comments!
From the last century, to the turn of this century, through to the present day, SCHS continues to celebrate our girls in sport!

🚣♀️ SCHS Rowing Milestone 🚣♀️
25 years ago, inspired by the 2000 Olympics, two SCHS students became the first known rowers in our school’s history: Aymara B, Games Captain, and Sophie W, Deputy Head Girl/Games Captain, shown here on the far left and far right respectively, with their SCHS PE coaches.
This September, we proudly celebrated that legacy with the naming of our boats alongside the SCHS Boat Club at Barn Elms Boathouse.
The Fore Shore quad, in honour of our SCHS rowing coach, Mr Ian Shore, and the Streatham Sisters double, celebrating the sisterhood of our SCHS students, are the first boats owned by our SCHS Boat Club.
Sincere thanks to the supporters of our SCHS Ergathon, where students, our rowing coach, and several staff completed 24 hours of ergo time, raising over £2,600 for our school's nascent rowing programme! (To donate, please follow the link below)

SCHS Alumnae Rowers: can you identify the year of the archival rowing photograph taken at Dorney Lake? Please leave us a note in the comments with your rowing memories!
From those pioneering alumnae at the turn of the century, to today’s rowers in Year 9 through Sixth Form, the spirit of SCHS rowing is thriving!

SCHS alumna Damilola Okonkwo is a true trailblazer in education. After beginning her career in finance with Credit Suisse and JP Morgan, Damilola followed her passion for learning and, six years ago, founded KEY Academy Lagos - a school for pupils aged 18 months to 18 years in Nigeria.
Since its inception, KEY academy has been redefining education through its innovative, project-based approach to learning. This year, the school’s impact was recognised globally when it was named a Top 10 finalist for the World’s Best School Prize for Innovation.
We are excited that Streatham & Clapham Prep School will soon be connecting our pupils with those at KEY Academy Lagos, thanks to the support of our Assistant Head of Prep (Co-Curricular, Events & Trips), Mr Alistair Smith.
