MY MY MY is the alias of Matthew Young. I design book covers for Penguin and take on freelance commissions in my spare time.

Clients include the Royal Society of Arts, World Book Day and the British Film Institute.

Ok, this is one of my favourite covers I designed last year. Probably also one of the quickest. Just scribbled down hastily with a big fat marker pen.

Happy City
by Charles Montgomery

I commissioned Vesa Sammalisto to illustrate this cover for Happy City. I did the type and cobbled the whole thing together.

Colin the Umbrella 08/10/2013

This little animation is now four years old: https://vimeo.com/6986263 Still the best one I've made (in my opinion).

Colin the Umbrella As part of a university brief we were told to 'celebrate the ordinary'. We had to pick an ordinary object, and make it seem extraordinary, in whatever way we felt…

Command and Control
by Eric Schlosser

What an honour it was to design a cover for Eric Schlosser (author of Fast Food Nation). The illustration is all my own work, and a very different style to what I'm used to.

The cover is printed using Pantone inks, so the jacket is pretty bright in real life.

Children of the Days
by Eduardo Galeano

This book features a very short story for each day of the year, 366 in total. So, my cover (front and back) features 366 individual dots, one for each day of the year.

Illustrated this one myself. Pretty pleased with the results.

Who Owns the Future?
by Jaron Lanier

Designed by deconstructing a dahlia and scanning all the individual petals. This is possibly the fastest cover I've ever designed — less than 24-hours from start to finish.

Turing's Cathedral
The Origins of the Digital Universe
by George Dyson

Featuring a fantastic illustration of the very first computer by Paul Catherall, this cover is looking very nice in paperback.

Technology, Solutionism and the Urge to Fix Problems that Don't Exist
by Evgeny Morozov

Evgeny Morozov is the first author I've designed two book covers for. I designed the paperback cover for his previous book, The Net Delusion (featuring a cat!), and now I've had the pleasure of designing his latest hardback.
