303 Projects is delighted to present The Horizon Delivers an Island, an exhibition of new work by Andrew Miller at the gallery space as well as a first commission for a new outdoor sculpture sited at Lowestoft’s East Point Pavilion Gardens, to coincide with First Light Festival and on show throughout the Summer.

The Horizon Delivers an Island is kindly supported by The Henry Moore Foundation.

“Miller had an early connection to the sea. He spent his childhood on the Devon coast where public telescopes positioned at regular intervals along the promenade gazed passively out to sea, and these new sculptures reference ways of looking, searching and navigating.” (Jeni Walwin 2025)

Ashwin Street art studios secured for the future

Art studios based in Dalston’s Ashwin Street are set to remain at the heart of the local creative community following an agreement that will see operator V22 take ownership of the building from Hackney Council and create a permanent cultural hub.

V22 has run the studios at 10–16 Ashwin Street for nearly two decades, providing affordable workspace for artists and creative practitioners at the centre of Dalston’s vibrant cultural scene.

V22 has purchased the building from the Council at the market value. The agreement includes provisions to protect its long-term future as a home for Dalston’s creative and cultural life.

Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney, said: “Over the last 20 years Dalston has become an exciting creative hub, with Ashwin Street at its centre. The Council’s relationship with organisations like V22 and the artists, actors, architects, musicians and historians who come together at venues along Ashwin Street have been at the heart of that journey.

“We fully support and share the creative vision for art and nature presented by V22 and neighbouring Dalston Eastern Curve Garden. This agreement for V22 to take ownership of the building and create a permanent creative hub is therefore really good news, offering a bright future for this locally listed building.”

Edward Benyon, Chairperson of V22, said: “We are thrilled to have reached this agreement with Hackney Council. V22 has been part of the Ashwin Street community for nearly 20 years, and we’re proud to have supported so many artists and grassroots organisations during that time. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Ashwin Street, one in which affordable creative space is protected for the long term.

We would also like to thank our neighbours, Bootstrap, Café OTO and the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, as well as the GLA Culture at Risk team, the Mayor of Hackney, and the Hackney Councillors, who endorsed our bid, and of course our incredible studio holders for their commitment, creativity and support throughout this process.”

Nur was one of our first cohorts of artists to join us at V22 Stoke Newington on opening the building in 2021. V22 is pleased to share Nur's story, in her own words.

'I was first introduced to ceramics by a teacher while preparing for art school entrance exams in Istanbul, where I’m originally from. At the time, I was dreaming of becoming a graphic designer, imagining myself designing book covers behind a computer screen. However, I was so drawn to the ceramic studio — with its grounded, hands-on nature — that I began helping out there. That experience shaped my decision to study Ceramics and Glass at university.

It took many years before I returned to ceramics as a full-time practice. After spending nearly a decade working in the private sector, I opened my ceramic studio in Istanbul in 2016. It was a big turning point—not only in my career, but on a more personal level. Working with clay became a supportive process during a challenging period in my life. Ceramics taught me patience and care; it's a slow process, full of stages where things can all too often go wrong. It teaches how to deal with frustration, and how to keep going.

Since 2018, I’ve been continuing my ceramic work in London. My inspiration is the moments of change, intersections, and the way different elements come together—often unpredictably. Much of my work explores the spontaneity of glaze combinations, allowing the kiln to play its part in revealing surprising and unrepeatable surface effects. I love that each piece finds its way into someone’s everyday moments—not just as an object, but as a personal favourite, something meaningful and chosen. It’s fascinating how such a deeply introverted process can lead to a genuine sense of connection with others.'

Alma (she/her) is a photographer, based in London whose work is known for its bold, joyful and vibrant aesthetic. She creates her own atypical world by capturing wide angled kitsch and humoristic images exploring cultural identities and gender performance.

Alma is based in our V22 Crown Close building, North East London.

Georgie Huxley

Georgie Huxley is a London-based painter whose work explores the tension between connection and solitude. She is drawn to fleeting, often overlooked moments — instances that hold a quiet intensity. Her paintings balance movement and stillness, presence and absence, creating spaces that feel both intimate and expansive. Through layered brushwork and subtle shifts in opacity, she allows forms to emerge and dissolve, evoking a sense of fragility and depth.

Her practice is rooted in close observation, shaped by a fascination with the textures of daily life and the traces people leave behind. An ongoing collection of discarded shopping lists informs her way of seeing — drawn to their accidental poetry and the glimpses they offer into anonymous lives. These quiet narratives, along with her time at the Slade School of Fine Art, continue to influence the way she approaches painting. Working from her London studio, she is continually developing her exploration of form, memory, and atmosphere.

Young London 2011

Situated in its 50,000 sq ft exhibition space in The Biscuit Factory, Bermondsey, Young London 2011 offered a vibrant and detailed exploration of the varied practices of the next generation of London’s artistic talent.
Inspired by the dynamic, young and emerging contemporary art scene in London, the exhibition was devised to amass a body of artists who were playing a prominent role in shaping the future of contemporary art both in London and internationally.

Cernamic

Founded by Nam and Susi, Cernamic is a creative ceramic studio with over 20 years of pottery expertise. Rooted in a passion for craftsmanship and community, Cernamic aims to establish a dedicated ceramics space that prioritises mental health, inclusivity, and accessibility.

Cernamic are pleased to announce they will be opening a new Ceramics Studio in Dalston! The grand opening will be on Friday 25th April, 6-9pm at 18 Ashwin Street, E8 3DL.

At the Ashwin Street Studio, Cernamic will provide affordable workshops for children and adults, fostering creativity and well-being through the therapeutic nature of clay. The studio will actively engage with the local community, offering hands-on training for young people to develop skills and pursue careers in ceramics. Cernamic is committed to breaking down barriers in the arts, ensuring that financial limitations or neurodivergence are never obstacles to creative expression. In a time when creativity is more essential than ever, Cernamic is dedicated to making ceramics accessible, meaningful, and transformative - a space where everyone, regardless of background, can shape, mould, and create.

Laura O’Connell

V22 Orpington, The Priory is hosting a new Upright Piano Music studio made for singer/songwriters! The Garden Room, in the historic 13th Century Priory, will support a music community in Orpington, with opportunities to record showreels and original music. There will be singing and piano lessons once the studio is complete. Keeping it “Low Key” but high energy! Watch this space… and follow for updates.

Laura O’Connell is a professional singer pianist in London. After graduating with a music degree she started working on cruise ships as a performer. Laura has had a hoot travelling around the world and doing what she loves but now feels an urge to show what she has learned in her years as a singer. Having struggled to find the perfect space for singer pianists and performers in London, V22 are pleased to host Laura in a beautiful space with natural reverb and lighting! We are all really looking forward to seeing this space grow into the music room it was meant to be.

Senay Yildiran

Senay has been dedicated to the art of ceramics and similar materials for the past decade, proudly boasting a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in this field. Senay has had the pleasure of showcasing her work at over 20 exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.

It was during Senay’s art studies at university that she had to choose between the Graphics and Ceramics departments. When Senay decided to pursue Ceramics, she knew that she wanted to create something tangible that was shaped by her own hands. After completing her master’s degree, she was taken aback by the sheer magnitude of the ceramic world, and felt a newfound appreciation for the craft.

Now, with a deep understanding of her practice, Senay is delighted to share her passion with you through the pieces she creates in this seemingly endless world.

Island Drawing Lab is a series of experimental workshops started by the dynamic duo, Danlu and Kelly. They are passionate about fostering collaboration between different disciplines, and making art fun and accessible.

James Bell

James Bell is a multi-disciplinary artist specialising in abstract painting, conceptual art, and film. Their work draws inspiration from their environment and explores themes of mental health, q***r identity, and social commentary.

James is based at our V22 Stoke Newington building in North East London. They grew up in the area and was one of the first cohorts of artists to move into the building. James’ portrait was taken by London-based photographer Maria Tzili.
