🌍 Global Café Recap | Interprofessional Learning in Immersive VR
Today’s Global Café brought together an inspiring international group of educators, clinicians, and researchers to explore how immersive virtual reality simulation (IVRS) can transform interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
Building on a rich interprofessional case study, the session sparked thoughtful discussion on how virtual environments can support authentic teamwork, shared decision-making, and learning with, from, and about each other across professions. The exchange highlighted not only technological innovation, but also the pedagogical and relational dimensions that make immersive learning meaningful.
A sincere thank you to our speakers and panelists for sharing their expertise, and to all participants for the engaged dialogue, critical questions, and global perspectives that truly define the Global Café spirit.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us today and helped make this session such a success. More Global Cafés are coming soon — we look forward to continuing these conversations across borders and professions.

SUBTHEME 3: Reclaiming Power: Decolonial Pedagogies in IPE
This subtheme invites us to reflect on the histories and power structures that have shaped health professions education. It asks how we might embrace decolonial approaches that centre African voices, restore equity, and cultivate dignity within learning spaces.
By reclaiming power, we reimagine interprofessional education as a site of liberation: one where collaboration is built on justice.
Join us at the University of the Western Cape, 31 August – 3 September 2026, as we rise together toward interprofessional futures shaped by Africa.
