π Exams Start Monday β Do You Understand Command Verbs? π
One of the most effective ways to improve your exam performance is to understand exactly what the question is asking you to do.
Every ABMA Education examination question contains a command verb. These command verbs guide you on how your answer should be structured and what the examiner is looking for.
Command verbs are linked to key academic skills and typically require you to:
π Analyse β Examine in detail
π οΈ Apply β Use your knowledge
βοΈ Evaluate β Make a judgement
Understanding the difference between these command verbs can help you answer questions more effectively and maximise your marks.
π Members can access our Guide to Command Verbs and other exam preparation resources in the Skills Centre within the Members Area, free to all registered members.
As you prepare for Monday, take some time to familiarise yourself with the command verbs you may encounter in your exam paper - it could make all the difference.

π June Exams Are Approaching β But When Do You Find Time to Study? β°
One of the biggest challenges students face isn't how to revise β it's finding the time to do it.
A simple but effective way to take control of your revision is by creating a personalised study timetable. Having a plan helps you stay focused, motivated and organised, while reducing the stress of wondering what to study next.
β
Schedule your existing commitments first (school, work, family time, activities)
β
Identify the times of day when you're most alert and able to concentrate
β
Use those peak focus times for challenging tasks such as exam practice and assignment writing
β
Leave lighter tasks, such as reading or reviewing notes, for times when your energy is lower
β
Create a weekly task list and assign tasks to specific study slots
Remember, if you don't complete everything on your plan, don't be discouraged. Effective time management is a skill that improves with practice. The goal is progress, not perfection.
π― A great way to stay on track is to set SMART goals:
β’ Specific β What exactly do you want to achieve?
β’ Measurable β How will you know you've achieved it?
β’ Attainable β Is it realistic?
β’ Relevant β Does it support your exam success?
β’ Time-Scaled β When will you complete it?
Small, consistent study sessions often achieve more than last-minute cramming.
