Wow! What an epic citrus tasting ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‹โ€๐ŸŸฉ๐Ÿ‹๐ŸŠ

Iโ€™ve always wonderedโ€ฆ how do you describe the flavour difference between a lemon and a lime? Or a grapefruit and an orange?

From octopus-like Buddhas hand to finger limes, we tasted 20 different citrus varieties from thanks to .london ๐Ÿคฉ

Iโ€™ve always thought that calamansis would be the next yuzu, but instead I was blown away by a shikwasa which was far more intense and complex with vegetal, bell pepper and tomato vine aromas and a super juicy mandarin and green pepper flesh.

Another standout was the flying dragon (or trifoliate orange) with a peach-like fuzzy skin and notes of sulphury tropical mango and passion fruit. ๐Ÿฅญ

The Buddhas hand has no juice and the pith isnโ€™t bitter. Itโ€™s has a crunchy apple-like texture with a perfumed, floral and slightly candied peel. I enjoyed the leftovers with some sea salt and olive oil as recommended by Shrub ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

The finger lime was slightly underwhelming in flavour complexity compared with other more aromatic limes like the makrut or rangpur. It was literally bursting out of its skin as soon as it was cut open. It was like eating a citrus popping candy with its sour caviar pearls. We agreed it was more of a textural experience.

Thanks so much Sam and Harry ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Proud to see on the wall inside the factory! ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿซ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿฅฐ

I love that itโ€™s got splatters on it ๐ŸซŸ from chocolate making!

I often use Chocolate Tree for my tasting & painting workshops because itโ€™s delicious (obvs) but also because they have colourful packaging which is great fun to compare with the paintings! ๐ŸŽจ

Do you stop to smell the roses? ๐ŸŒน

Here I am, leaning over peopleโ€™s front garden walls to smell different roses on a summer evening stroll. ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜…

Some smelled fruity and peach-like, while others had a fresher, greener aroma. The intensity of each roseโ€™s perfume varied, too.

You become a sensory expert through experience, not certification.

Every day, weโ€™re surrounded by opportunities to build our flavour โ€œlibraries.โ€

Did you know that โ€œstop and smell the rosesโ€ is an idiom that reminds us to slow down and appreciate the beauty (or flavour, for us ๐Ÿ˜‰) and little joys in life, rather than rushing through it? Building our sensory libraries is an opportunity to practice being present and to find moments of peace in our bustling, busy lives.

Sharing some love for my home cacao gallery wall ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’•

I had this project in mind for years. I collected cacao art from around the world and created some pieces myself.

The second photo is a painting of my cacao gallery wall that I created at a โ€œsipโ€™nโ€™paintโ€ event. This event happened to be on the one year anniversary of the completion on my first home, so it felt very appropriate!

The third photo shows how I hide the existing thermostat that came with the property using Velcro so I can still use it!

The last photo is a classic โ€œbeforeโ€ shot which I find quite satisfying to compare with the final completed project.

I am now dreaming of my next property with more wall space so I can hang more cacao art!
