Estrella has been making leaps and bounds in her piano playing recently and should be very proud of the progress she is making. She has shown great commitment by sticking consistently to her new practice schedule, and it is really beginning to show in her playing. Her hard work, focus, and positive attitude during lessons have helped her improve each week and her pieces and scales are sounding polished. Keep up the fantastic effort, Estrella — you are doing a wonderful job and are a very deserving Pupil of the Week!

The Royal Arsenal Junior and Adult Choirs are thrilled to be performing at Plumstead Make Merry this weekend!

PUPIL OF THE WEEK 🏆

Congratulations, Carsyn! Carsyn has been working so hard recently and is such fun to teach! He enjoyed playing at the Spring Performance Platform earlier this year, and is a delight to his tutor showing maturity beyond his years. He is quick to learn, listens and loves his lessons and playing the piano. 🎹 Graham looks forward to many more pleasing hours of teaching him. Well done Carsyn! 👏

💫 MONTHLY TEACHER SPOTLIGHT 💫

This month we are focussing on our piano, vocal and cello teacher Daniel! Daniel joined us just a few months ago and teaches on Tuesdays. You can read all about Daniel below:

‘Daniel Gilchrist grew up in Gloucestershire where he studied the piano with Ashok Gupta and the cello with Warwick Cole. He then fell in love with singing while studying Music at Caius College, Cambridge.

He now lives in South London has a varied career as a freelance musician. As a tenor soloist Daniel has appeared in light/early operatic roles including the rather different characters of Orpheus in both Monteverdi’s Orfeo and Offenbach’s Orphée, as well as as a regular oratorio soloist around the country and in song recitals with pianist Tammas Slater and Guitarist Declan Hickey. He has also sung with many of the country’s topprofessional choirs and delighted audiences across Europe and the US. Daniel also works as a church organist in many fine London churches, and as a rehearsal pianist and orchestral conductor with Third Culture Collective.

Daniel founded the Selene Consort in Oxford in 2022, a tight-knit vocal ensemble focusing on early and contemporary music. The group released its debut album, Heavenly Light, in 2025, and its successor Earthly Solace will appear in 2026. Both discs consist of reconstructed polyphony from the Eton Choirbook.

Daniel is a passionate educator, and alongside a successful piano and voice teaching practice has worked extensively with children in parish church choirs, helping lay the groundwork for healthy singing and bright musical futures.’
