Will Jones and Alexander Betts publish a new article in Refugees Deeply in which they examine the political lives of exiles and how they are often shaped by the ambivalent role of outsiders.

New staff profile: Dr Ivica Petrikova
Ivica Petrikova joins us as a lecturer in International Relations. This year she will teach International Relations Theory and two Masters’ courses: Theories of Development and Politics of Inequality. She has a PhD in Political Science from UCL. She is originally from Slovakia but before moving to the UK she lived in several other countries, including the United States, Spain, Mexico, India, and Belgium. Her research revolves mainly around development issues such as aid effectiveness, food security, inequality and social capital, and movements for agrarian change. She is also interested in the links between religion, politics, and development.

New staff profile: Dr Will Jones
Will is the incoming lecturer in International Relations. He was previously a lecturer in the Politics of Forced Migration at Oxford’s Refugee Studies Centre. His main interests are in refugee studies and African politics. He has recently finished a book, Mobilising the Diaspora (coming out this autumn), which is about the political organisations and movements founded by Rwandan and Zimbabwean exiles to challenge authoritarianism back home and protect their rights. He is also involved in redesigning refugee resettlement to empower refugees and the communities which host them. You can find out more about this at www.refugees-say.com
