Learning for Life™ aims to generate shared value by co-designing with stakeholders specific tailored projects that address local educational and employment needs. The projects match low-income and individuals in need with employment within the industry’s value chain and reduce the gap between young people’s skills and the competencies required by employers. By ensuring work experience for at least 70 percent of program participants, Diageo supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of achieving employment and decent work for all. Learning for Life™ was launched in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2008. Since then, the program has successfully expanded to other regions around the world, most recently in North America, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Ecuador, South Africa, and Spain. Today, Diageo Learning for Life™ runs over 90 programs a year in more than 40 countries. More than 115,000 individuals have graduated to-date, but that number is almost five times as much for the number of individuals impacted by the Learning for Life™ program. Better yet, approximately 82 percent of programs report employment rates above 70 percent upon graduation. As an integral part of Diageo’s Sustainable Development Strategy, Learning for Life™ will continue to evolve and expand across the world in order to positively impact the lives of even more young people, their families, and those communities where they live.
