It’s time to start ramping things up again…
The pre-season is where the pb’s are madez
I’ve been very much in a base phase since HYROX CARDIFF.
- Building bigger aerobic foundations
- Improving unilateral strength
- Resorting structural balance
- Working on some niggles/injuries
Now this next phase begins with getting some testing don’e to see where I’m actually at, my strengths, my weaknesses.
This will then inform my next training block leading towards competition in October.
I’ll also be going into a physique phase very soon alongside this.
Mainly adding tissue to my upper body.
One of the tests I’ll be doing is my 5k
The last time I tested this was MARCH 2023 where I got a 22:15.
Now I know my running is quite a bit better than when I last tested my 5k so I’m excited to see what’s in the locker.
This progress I’ll be making in this preseason will come down to a few things:
- Identifying where my strength and weaknesses lie
- Using that data to inform where I should be spending most of my time training.
- Having structure that will have me turning up on race day to dominate and pb on race day.

I remember when I first started Hybrid training (even when I had very specific and periodised phases)…
I was wondering why tf I was wan’t really progressing as much as wanted.
Firstly, an expectation management thing on my part. The entrance game takes tiiiiime.
Secondly, a mindset shift of not redlining like a nutter every session.
I had a handle on this for my muscle building and strength. Id learn this from with years of training and coaching.
But when it came to endurance.
PFFFFT, forget about.
Cus my background was Rugby, speed and power.
That’s all I knew.
So I took that mindset into those sessions.
Not fun to say the least, and counter productive.
