'Extreme' heat warning issued for Reading as temperatures get very high.
Look out for those around you who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated.
Babies and toddlers, older people, those with underlying conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk.
And look out for updates from your child's school as they prepare for the hot days. Plans may change for sports days etc.

Dear Families,
I hope you are keeping cool this weekend! Lots of information below to share with you about how we will keep the children happy, cool as possible and learning this week. We fully understand the concerns with the warm temperatures but we have had no direction to close the schools as discussed in the media. We will be open as normal and have lots of warm weather plans in place which are listed below. Reminder- Friday is an INSET day so school is closed to all pupils.
Sports Day Postponed- now Tuesday 30th June
We have been keeping a close eye on the weather and initially Tuesday morning was remaining around 26/27 degrees (with the higher temperatures coming later in the day) so we had hoped to go ahead as we know parents will have organised time off work. These high temperatures have now changed and will be earlier from 11am. Therefore we are postponing sports day until Tuesday 30th June. The same organisation will go ahead as previously communicated. Any further updates will be shared if this again has to change due to the weather.
Clubs- all sports clubs this week cancelled- new week put in week beginning 6th July
All sports based clubs will be moved as they run at the times of the day when the temperatures are due to be the highest. All other non-sports clubs will continue. A full list of clubs that have been moved can be found at the bottom of this email.
Uniform- PE Kits all week
Children are welcome to come into school this week in PE kits/ school summer dresses/ PE shorts with lighter cotton white/blue/green plain round neck t-shirts this week (no logos/patterns/embellishments) so they can remain as cool as possible.
Warm Weather- general guidance
The next few days have been declared a Heatwave. Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young and very old and those with chronic disease.
Advice for at home- Stay out of the sun. Keep your home as cool as possible, shading windows and shutting them during the day may help. Open windows when it is cooler at night. Keep drinking fluids.
Advice for in school- We will do all we can to keep the school as cool as possible.
Every classroom has a fan and classes are moved to cooler areas as required.
Please ensure that your child comes into school with a water bottle. They will have regular opportunities to refill this.
We encourage children to wear sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun with a high sun protection factor (please apply before school).
We also recommend all children to wear a sunhat, preferably with a big brim.
We have a full school heatwave plan and if necessary we will keep children in or in the shade, out of the sun as required.
