📚🍪 Refugee Week – Share Food and Stories 🍪📚
Today, our school community came together for our Refugee Week Reading Café – Book Blanket, inspired by the theme "Share Food and Stories." With reading being one of our favourite things to do, we knew it would be a good day!!!
Throughout the day, each class enjoyed a visit to the café, where children explored a wide range of books alongside their peers and family members. Through stories, they reflected on important themes such as belonging, change, displacement, migration, friendship and kindness.
We were absolutely blown away by the number of parents, carers and family members who joined us. Thank you for taking the time to share this special experience with your children and helping to create such a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
A special thank you goes to our wonderful Sanctuary Ambassadors, who played an important role throughout the day. They helped to read with younger children, asked thoughtful questions about the stories, and proudly served refreshments to both children and adults. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and demonstrated kindness, confidence and responsibility throughout the event.
Meanwhile, our staff also enjoyed an Adult Book Café in the staff room, where teachers had the opportunity to browse and share books linked to the themes of Refugee Week. 📖🙂
Thank you to everyone who helped make today's event such a success and for showing how sharing stories can bring people together.
A big thank you to the wonderful Mrs Davenport for creating such a fabulous event.

🎨🖌️ Refugee Week – Get Drawing and Painting: Wings of Courage 🖌️🎨
Today, every child at Moss Valley Primary Academy explored the theme of courage through our Wings of Courage artwork. Children drew around their hands to create colourful feathers, painted in a range of skin tones, and reflected on important questions about bravery, belonging and welcome.
They considered what courage looks like, times they have had to be brave, the challenges someone might face when moving to a new country, and how we can help others feel welcome in our community.
A special thank you goes to our Year 5 and Year 6 Sanctuary Ambassadors, who supported every class by helping with writing, sharing ideas and confidently leading learning at the front of the classroom. Their leadership and confidence showed great courage in itself!
We are incredibly proud of all our children for their thoughtful reflections and creativity today. 💚

💚 Refugee Week 2026 Begins! 💚
Mrs Davenport launched the week with a whole-school assembly exploring our theme for the week: Courage.
Together, we discussed the many ways adults show courage in their jobs every day, from healthcare workers and firefighters to teachers and community volunteers. We also reflected on how children demonstrate courage in their own lives - whether that's trying something new, speaking up for what's right, helping a friend, or persevering when things feel challenging.
We are looking forward to a week of learning, reflection and celebration as we explore what courage means to us all.

Our Year 1 children had a fantastic time celebrating Empathy Day! Through discussions, drama and role-play activities inspired by The Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright, they explored the importance of understanding feelings, showing kindness, and supporting others.
The children also joined a step-by-step drawing session with the author, creating their own wonderful Worrysaurus illustrations. They showed great concentration, creativity and enthusiasm throughout the day and were incredibly proud of their finished artwork.
Well done, Year 1, for your thoughtful discussions and fantastic participation! 🌟
