The National Youth Service Scheme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources, has officially launched a Technical Working Committee tasked with steering a transformative fisheries initiative aimed at empowering young Gambians.
This strategic committee will play a central role in the design, preparation, and implementation of a comprehensive fisheries project focused on equipping youth with practical, market-relevant skills across the fisheries value chain. The initiative targets young people with an interest in fish-related activities, including fish processing, aquaculture, preservation, marketing, and sustainable fishing practices.
In line with national development priorities, the committee will assess and establish the necessary frameworks to ensure inclusive participation, capacity building, and long-term sustainability of the program. By addressing key operational and technical components, the committee aims to create structured opportunities that will enhance youth employment, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen food security within the sector.
This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to harnessing the potential of the fisheries industry as a viable pathway for youth empowerment and economic growth in The Gambia.
