Sheet Mulching - Your Start to a Productive Home Garden in Guam 08/06/2026

New video release! 🎥

If your limited land space or poor soil quality has you thinking you can't start a garden or small subsistence farm for your family, we'd like to introduce you to a very simple and effective practice called sheet mulching.

Preparing a site using sheet mulching can be done in one weekend. It's a layering process using waste materials that will actually build your soil's organic matter and prevent erosion while also suppressing weeds, among other benefits.

Watch this video as our sustainable agriculture experts show you step by step how it's done.

If you have any questions on the process, please reach out to our Agriculture & Natural Resources Office at (671) 735-2080.

In this UOG Horizons column, UOG Land Grant food scientist Dr. Jian Yang describes an effective solution to this problem: transforming fresh produce into value-added products. 🫙🥒🍈

The months following a storm is a critical time to assess soil conditions and take measures to improve soil productivity and crop yields in the future.

Any farmers who can provide their bonafide farmer certification from the Guam Department of Agriculture are invited to sign up for this free service. The Soil Lab crew will visit your field, take soil samples, and then make crop-specific recommendations.

To arrange a time for soil sampling, contact:
