Proyek Penyu Gili Trawangan

The Manta Market was so much fun! ☺️🐢

A big thank you to everyone who stopped past our market stand at the Manta Market on Saturday!

We loved talking to heaps of turtle fanatics, explaining why turtle hatchlings should experience immediate release rather than kept captive in tanks and pools.

It really was interactive for all ages! Over 30 people pledged for free turtles on our big art mural! (The youngest, Jordan hasn't had her 1st birthday yet! 🥹)

Whilst kids (again, of ages 2-60 😆) got involved with digging for treasure, rescuing turtle toys trapped in ropes and counting 'turtle eggs' ping pong balls.

We managed to raise 1,550,000idr to continue our project, thank you if you sponsored a turtle nest or purchased a turtle keychain!

Best yet! Our Turtle nest cage that we had on display was promptly picked up by the Turtle Rangers and moved to a nest that was laid at 5pm on the beach! We are now complelty out of proper nest cages and have to move to temporary baskets until some start hatching.

We can't wait for more educational and interactive activities to help raise awareness with our busy turtle nesting season. 🙏🏼🐢🙌🏽

We are looking for turtle-loving volunteers to join our Gili research program!

💙 Love sunrise walks
💚 Want to partake in citizen science
💙 Love to witness natural turtle releases

Then please join us!
Our Turtle Trackers walk the beaches of Gili Trawangan every sunrise to check for turtle landings and nest activity.

The data we collect helps us to
- Protect turtle nesting hotspots
- Monitor incubating nests
- Reduce nest poaching
- Break the taboo on dangerous headstarting practises!

Jika Anda memiliki usaha di area tepi pantai selama musim penyu, mohon untuk membantu dengan cara:
• Mematikan lampu di malam hari
• Mengecilkan volume musik setelah pukul 21.00
• JANGAN menyentuh penyu saat mereka naik ke pantai
• JANGAN mengganggu kandang atau sarang penyu, meskipun ada bayi penyu di dalamnya

Mari saling mengingatkan dan membagikan informasi ini kepada teman, staf, dan rekan kerja anda.
Bersama-sama kita jaga dan lindungi penyu di Gili Trawangan.

Watch Out Turtles About!
It is the season for nesting turtles on Gili Trawangan. If you see anything please contact Proyek Penyu Gili Trawangan so trained turtle rangers can make sure the turtles are safe.
If you have a beach side business in turtle season please:
- turn your lights off at night
- turn the music down after 9pm
- DO NOT touch turtles if they walk up the beach
- DO NOT tamper with a turtle nest cage, even if babies are inside
