Beach days are the best.
But beach days with friends are even better! 😊
How lucky are we to work and play near the Long Strand!
We even got to say a final farewell to 3 super students 🎓 🏖️
Rathbarry National School is located near the idyllic village of Rathbarry, West Cork.

Sports Day fun 2026 🏁
Well done to all the boys and girls for getting involved in all the races.
Thank you to Mrs Barrett and Ms Hourihane for planning the day and ensuring everything ran smoothly.
The spud and spoon race proved to be a highlight as it needed lots of patience and determination 🥔 while the penalty shoot out was a new addition this year and will definitely return in 2027!

We did it!!! 😊
So proud of our Active Flag Committee/Student Council who led a wonderful year of activities for the whole school.
From skipping around the world challenges to whole school movement breaks to our Active Schools Week - they were delighted to learn this week that they were successful in their bid to earn our school our very first Active Schools Flag 🏳️
Well done to Gearóid, Lilian, Oisín, Finn, Ruairí and Ted. Special thanks also due to Ms Hourihane and Ms Harte for their support and encouragement.

Yesterday, our school community gathered to celebrate a great year for all the students at our school.
Our 6th class were delighted to make a presentation of €1,087 to Danny and John from the Galleyflash Rowing Club - a local club who provide annual rowing training and support to our 5th & 6th class pupils as part of the West Cork Schools Regatta.
Our incredible 6th class raised this amount by successfully completing their 6th class triathlon. Since yesterday’s presentation they added another €50 to bring the total to €1,137.
Well done boys 👏
Thank you also due to Ms. Hourihane and Ms. Harte for supporting them on the run, row and cycle. And to Danny and John for helping get them on and off the lake safely. 🚣

Congratulations to our 6th class graduates 🎓
It was a pleasure to spend the day with Ailill, Gearóid and Matthew - sharing their many achievements along with celebrating the young men they are growing into.
We had a fun filled day with graduation cake, face painting by the incredibly talented parent duo of Diane Heirloom Seals and Poppy, along with acrostic name poems and active school stations on the yard.
Games were played, chats were had and we topped it off with an ice-cream.
Thank you to everyone who made today special for all our students and families ☀️

“Happy
Smart
Rewarding
Frustrating
Exciting
Experimenting
Solving problems”….just some of the feedback from the children in the Junior Classroom following our STEM workshop with Rob from ‘Think Big’ at Creative Hut
We were challenged to make our robots move in certain directions and by specific angles plus much much more. We talked about shape, transformation, sliding, rotating and spinning.
Then we built our city of the future using Lego 😊
A great workshop for any day but especially a rainy day in June!

Our whole school enjoyed our final tennis sessions with Alan today and were so fortunate to avoid the showers!! Thank you to Ardfield Rathbarry Tennis Club for opening up their facilities to us. Our serves and volleys were even better on their impressive new courts!
And when we were not on ‘Centre Court’ we enjoyed some fun at the Ardfield Rathbarry Playground Group 🛝
Two wonderful amenities in our community… how lucky are we! 🍀

Our pupils enjoyed a fun-filled day at West Cork Secret on their annual school tour last Friday.
They took part in a variety of team-building activities, while the older pupils got down and dirty tackling the muddy obstacle course and mud slide! After all the excitement, everyone refuelled with some delicious pizza.
A fantastic day was had by all, filled with fun, laughter, and great memories.
