This Educate Together primary school teacher says it well: “I love being called by my first name. My name is Mary, not Ms W…I’m only ever Ms W…in official correspondence. Anyone who knows me, calls me Mary and I’m with the pupils in my class day in, day out so they know me well and why shouldn’t they call me ‘Mary?’’

A huge congrats to Limerick Educate Together Secondary School for being awarded the Green Schools Biodiversity Secondary School of the Year at the annual Green Schools Awards ceremony in Portlaoise! This was as a result of great work by over 40 students and 10 staff members. Some of the amazing things they accomplished include: building a biodiversity walkway, planting a pocket forest and orchard, sowing a wildflower meadow, installing swift nesting boxes, and installing a small pond.

We hope to see all these incredible projects continue to grow and inspire students to care deeply about our planet and sustainability 🌎 🌱 🤝

🗳️ Democracy in action:

At our 2026 AGM, members came together to vote on motions and shape the future of education. But some of the most powerful moments came from our second-level students, who didn't just attend — they led.

As our Chair Emma Lane-Spollen said: “We are living through a period of profound global instability... but what we teach, model and discuss about ethics, equality, democracy and human rights plays a vital role.”

This is what it looks like when an ethos of equality and respectful partnership isn’t just a poster on the wall – it’s how we work.
