As a yoga practitioner for many years, the International Day of Yoga has always held a special place in my heart. Being a Bengali, this year feels even more special as the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026, is being hosted in Kolkata, my roots, my pride.

I couldn’t be happier to see Kolkata become the center of this global movement that celebrates health, harmony, and holistic well-being. From a timeless Indian tradition to a worldwide wellness revolution embraced across 5,500+ locations and 210+ countries, yoga continues to unite humanity beyond borders.

And the best part? I’ll be there personally on 21st June at Red Road, joining millions in celebrating the power of yoga. Grateful to be part of a movement that reminds us that wellness is not a one-day event, but a lifelong journey.

How did citizens of the Mauryan Empire dress up? ✨Comment YES, if you want to read the book by decoding the fascinating secrets behind ancient Indian clothing deeply rooted in body, mind, and personality.

Did you know that Ancient Indians were pioneers in comfort dressing? They invoked vayu or the air principle in their clothing; and ingeniously designed attires according to their profession and social standing. The working class wore a simple earthy toned antariya tied around their strong waist for convenience and mobility at work. The priests wore pristine white antariya draped immaculate, and uttariya covering both shoulders, made of gentle cotton to emanate purity and simplicity related to their learned status. The ascetics wore coarse fabrics made of valkala or tree bark or h**p as they aspired to go beyond the comforts of body and clothing. The warriors wore light weight yet strong drapes on their lower body to ensure agility, and wore thickly padded stanapattas with leather or metal sheaths covering them for protection and creating a daunting stature.
