Rosewood Wardrobe, Nagpur, c.1980s

There was a time when Indian craftsmen worked with rosewood freely. That time is gone.
The wood is now protected. The craft is harder to find. And what was made during those years, solid, unhurried, built to last, cannot be made again the same way.

This wardrobe is from that era. 1980s. Rosewood throughout, with teak inner drawers and shelf. The ornate crest was sourced from a separate antique piece and fitted during restoration. Two old things becoming one. The hardware and glass are original. Untouched.

7.2 feet tall. Heavy. Very old-world.

I prefer wood that has already had a life. Freshly cut timber just doesn’t feel the same. That’s what drew me to this wardrobe.

This rosewood wardrobe was my first restoration. Solid rosewood on the outside. The two drawers, inner shelf, and the base are made of teak. The crest I added is from another antique piece. Original mirror, original marks, original weight.
